What MUSICAL requirements do you feel should exist for a worship leader?

Of course, we know a worship leader should be a true Christian and have all of the spiritual qualities that the Bible lays out for leadership within the church. But beyond that, what MUSICAL…Continue

"Hey Lorraine! Yes this has been a good discussion. I certainly don't feel bad at all having my iPad in front of me. I'd rather it be there for me to double-check some lyrics than to mess them up and cause a distraction. Like everything…"

"Interesting thing about charts... I "know" how most of our songs go, but in the upper right corner of our charts, the key the song is in is there in big type, and more than once I've found myself looking there, going... "okay, I…"

"Good point for sure. I think the average stat in churches is that 20% of the congregation does 80% of the work to make everything run and happen. So no surprise that the band members are carrying double duty. I would have a hard time forcing team…"

Music Stands on the Platform

Okay, here's a question for everyone... do you allow your team to use music stands on the platform during services? I know lots of people have opinions on this topic. I personally see a bit of both sides. I don't like a bunch of music stands across the front of the platform as it doesn't look good visually, but people using iPads on smaller stands that take up less real estate is less annoying visually. However, the biggest issue of course is how stuck people are in their stands. When I see a…See More

About Me:
I grew up in the church as a PK (Pastor’s Kid) and was involved in the worship band from a young age. Growing up, I played saxophone not only in my church, but in various worship bands, events, camps and recording projects. I then graduated from Indiana University School of Music with a performance degree on saxophone. While in college, I began doing some worship leading in my local church, then other churches, then took a full-time music pastor position right after graduating. I served in that capacity (in a few places) for about 8 1/2 years. Then I switched gears and launched my own web development business (which I had done part-time while working in the church). After a brief break, I stepped into a new part-time music pastor position at a church plant and helped grow the church to about 550 members in 8 years. I have recorded 9 live worship CDs and been a part of many others during my 20 years of worship leading experience.

I was very involved in a local worship conference that lead to discussions of how to further and regularly resource and serve local church music ministries. Out of all of it, WorshipReady.com was born. It was created to become the highest quality worship chord chart resource, with direct connection to the iPad OnSong app, and also to build a community and overall worship leader resource. Then in October 2016, I took on the ownership of WorshipTheRock!

My wife and 1 of our 5 kids live in Loveland, CO, where we just moved to summer of 2017. Although not serving presently in a music pastor role, I am looking forward to getting connected in our new city and church!

Hi, just got back on, been busy with knee surgery etc. I just recently sold off all my electric stuff and am sticking with acoustic for our new direction in ministry. I got a Taylor 314CE instead  and love it. It works best for every situation!
