Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Music Stands on the Platform'
"Actually, I think a lot of pastors DO memorize the sermon, or at least they give it without reading it word for word.  Though they have the advantage that there aren't four or five backup preachers trying to stay in sync with them. …"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Music Stands on the Platform'
"Interesting thing about charts... I "know" how most of our songs go, but in the upper right corner of our charts, the key the song is in is there in big type, and more than once I've found myself looking there, going... "okay, I…"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Music Stands on the Platform'
"We've got stands, and every week I put the chord chart books in order (usually late Saturday night, like tonight).  My philosophy for our band is to make it as easy for them, to give them the bast chance of succeeding every week at…"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Easter / Good Friday 2018 Set Lists'
"Oops, that "It Was Finished" song is by Bryan and Katie Torwalt, part of the Jesus Culture conglomerate.  We worked on it for a while last night, we'll be speeding it up mightily from a slow "worshipful" song to…"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Easter / Good Friday 2018 Set Lists'
"For Easter Sunday, more songs than usual this week: Prelude: "First Polaroid in Palestine" (a song about the Shroud of Turin) (maybe or maybe not) Opening Set: Jesus Messiah (segue into) Open Up the Heavens Before Sermon: Dwell With You…"

Charles Wolff replied to Sue's discussion 'Using Audacity to rip vocals from music'
"Well, sure, let's dig into this again. First off, I think CCLI is generally a good thing.  While they don't always define exactly what you can do with a song, they provide legal access to (and cataloging of) a large body of P/W…"

Charles Wolff replied to Joe Aiken's discussion 'O Take Me Back'
"Okay, I had a really hard time following the rhythm of the lyric and the rhythm of the guitar at the same time. It feels like maybe you were listening to a click track or a bass that the rest of us weren't in on. After listening six or eight…"

Charles Wolff replied to Michael Wolsey's discussion 'Song of Praise'
"First observation is that, for a "song of praise" this is SOOOO slow.  Think about reworking it so that the lyrics go by about twice as fast. Angela's points are good.  On the subject of tightening the lyric - just because…"

Blue Christmas

Last night, our church had our first-ever "Blue Christmas" service. Here's an article that explains the idea:

Although I'm not playing in the worship band right now, I am still on the worship committee at church, and back in October or November I brought up the idea, and when I found out that the pastor was up for doing the service, I signed on to do the music (guy & guitar style). One song based upon Chopin (of several) uploaded - titled "Just Believe" - the lyrics are available - if I can be so bold, what do you think?

Hey Charles, I hope all is well with you. Retired but not out I hope.

You are a wise & experienced Man of God. Your wealth of experience is essential for new worship leaders to glean from. Even tho the songs are different today the key purpose is still the same. I really appreciate reading your comments to songwriters, outlining your thoughts about songs.

I have a similar outlook.

Worship songs = Singing to God.

Praise songs = Singing about God.

Testimony = personal story about experience.

Inspirational songs = encouragement to the church.

Keep commenting & being effective. This network needs your voice.

Blessings. Rick
