does anyone out there  play their guitar through a laptop?

if so, what software, effects, and interfaces do you use ?

i like the idea of didgitallity and portability !!!

also, im more of a hi fidelity guy, so not playing through amps doesnt bother me as long as i have good monitor sound onstage

Hey Timothy - great topic - just thinking - might be worth posting this as a forum discussion rather than a blog, to encourage people to replyand discuss!

Acoustic or electric?  Ax Effects is a big winner for a lot of people, but I don't think you truly get the same sound. For electric guitars, high fidelity is not only a waste, but can also add tones and sounds that you don't want. For acoustic/classical, I think you benefit. But for me, you benefit most if you use a condenser mic into the computer.

I use an older line 6 interface with my laptop.  IT does the job.  The software itself is not as good as something like guitar rig but the interface sets up as an input/output box for most DAWs.  Lately I have been using the mobile POD on my iphone.  Great portable platform for practicingt.
