Take Time to Notice
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning" James 1:17
Have you taken the time to notice the little gifts the Father bestows on you? His hand is everywhere in our lives, yet we allow life's daily distractions to take our attention away from them. From HIM. From the many simple ways He wants to bring smiles to our faces.
I love birds. They continuously declare the glory and creativity of God with their songs, movement, flight and diversity, and I'm fascinated with them. My Father knows it. He constantly "gives" me birds. When I'm driving, soaring red tail or black hawks always appear over my car. Or flocks of geese in V-formation will glide into my view. It's also His hand that keeps me safe as I gaze to the sky to admire these creatures as I drive! This summer, I was twice blessed with the golden glory of tanagers crossing my path.
When we went to Florida, one of my fondest memories of one of the amusement parks was the two osprey circling over our heads. They were magnificent!
On my birthday, I was given the most wonderful gift! Right outside my bathroom window not two feet away from where I stood brushing my teeth (a great time to observe the feeder), a cardinal and a blue jay sat on adjacent branches of a small tree, twittering and cawing a birthday blessing for me. Where was my camera at that moment?
And of course, there's my feeder! It has attracted many little sparrows, finches, cardinals, blue jays, mourning doves, woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, pigeons, catbirds, juncos and more. I can sit and watch for countless hours.
This morning, it was a tufted titmouse. The first I've observed at my feeder. I was walking the dog, and suddenly, there it was…just a few feet away and bold as it could be! I was enthralled! Enchanted! I thought, if I had the time, I could stand still with seed in my hand, and this little one would come and partake!
I'm often aware of the hawk sitting in a tall tree or perched on top a street light—and that I'm probably the only one who sees it. Or the flash of red, yellow or blue that flies hurriedly across my path that few others take the time to notice. I consider them my gifts…specifically and strategically placed there for my benefit from my Abba Father.
It doesn't take a lot to make me happy. A tufted titmouse will do. It may be a small thing to you, but to me, it is my Father who bestows such gifts that lighten my day and bring a song to my heart.
What about you? What brings a song of praise to your heart? Can the Father please His child this morning with a gift that makes you smile? Lighten up…take a look around and see the love He pours out on you in the way only He can—and the way only you may appreciate. It's all around you—but it's up to you to take a moment to notice. And every time you do, you bring a smile to His face too!
