learning curves....

I recently (June 2009) stepped down as worship pastor at a church and left so that I could help my daughter find a church she could get plugged into. This was a sad time, but not difficult. I would rather see my girls worshiping God with all they are than be a well celebrated worship pastor any where in the world. But you want to know the most frustrating part for me.....re-learning to worship without critiquing the team. : \ I try hard not to get into a critique mode, but I almost always find… Continue

Psalm 19

The other day I was in a burger joint getting some breakfast and this lady asked me which Psalm was Psalm 19. (It happens to be my license plate on my car.) And I told her how it starts to refresh her memory of which one it is. When she left I got to thinking about the chapter as a whole. It has a definite progression. The psalmist starts out observing the sky and sees God's glory in it. Then he starts to reflect on God's Word and is brought to a realization that he is lost without God. And he… Continue

I know.....that was fast. : )

I found a file hosting site that would allow me to upload a file that was 60MB. So now if you go to Psalm 19 Records, you can download In the Shadows in mp3 format at anytime. Thanx.

The heavens declare the glory of God....shouldn't we?

How do you see God? What is He like?

Part 1 - God is a mystery

It has been said that to keep the romance alive in a relationship, one should always keep a little bit of mystery about themselves. Or that one should have a touch of unpredictability. The same could be said of God. God compares His relationship to us on one level to the relationship between a husband and wife. But where we can never have any mystery about ourselves to God, we can never truly say that we know all there is to know of God. He is always a mystery and… Continue

The Lord gives, the Lord takes away, Blessed be the name of the Lord

I was at a church recently and they sang Matt Redman's Blessed Be Your Name. When they go to the bridge (the part that says, You give and take away) they had changed the words to, 'He blesses every day'. I was ready to get on my soap box. Now I realize that they probably didn't mean this, but it sounded to me like they were saying that they blessed His name if He blessed them, but not if He didn't. The only thing I could think was, "Would they still say blessed be His name if He took away from… Continue

How do you spell faith?.....R-I-S-K

I was listening to an old PODcast from Holy Trinity Brampton today, and Mike Pilavachi was speaking. He was describing how he views faith. (This is a paraphrase, but you get the idea.) Faith is standing on the diving board of a pool and realizing that there is no water in the pool. I would stop and say to God, "God, fill the pool with water and I will dive in." But God replies, "Dive into the pool and trust that by the time you get there, I will have filled the pool with water." Faith is always… Continue

There is a church on my way to work that has a sign in front that they put different little sayings on. Right now it says, "Beware the bareness of a busy life." So true, but I think I would take a step further. "Beware the barrenness of a busy life." We live in a hectic world. If we aren't doing 3 things at once we must be lazy. But we need to set aside time (and I am preaching to myself as much as anyone else) to spend time alone with God. No distractions of any kind. No TV, no video games, no… Continue
