Charles Wolff replied to Joe Aiken's discussion 'To Theme or not to Theme'
"Yeah, I don't find out until the bulletin MSWord file comes out on Thursday or Friday what the scripture or sermon title are, so I've accepted that there's no way for me to try to tie in with the theme... and I HAVE asked the pastor…"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Sunday 12/9/18 Set List'
"I like your "There's No Place..." song - a simple chord pattern (but I like that the "verse" part isn't just more I - IV), this would be an easy one for both the band and congregation to learn.  I don't think…"

Charles Wolff replied to Brian Lawson's discussion 'Temple of Broken Pieces'
"Okay, so here are my first impressions... you know how I operate on this stuff... Reading through the lyrics, there is something about that line "Saved by God's own Son" in the first verse that feels off. I just really want it to be…"

Charles Wolff replied to Wulf Forrester-Barker's discussion 'What notation do you give your team?'
"Well, you could always do the listening and transcribing yourself, and then just hand the 94 pages to your worship leader and say, "this is what I'll be playing.  Let me know if you want any changes." Honestly, as a WL, I had the…"

Blue Christmas

Last night, our church had our first-ever "Blue Christmas" service. Here's an article that explains the idea:

Although I'm not playing in the worship band right now, I am still on the worship committee at church, and back in October or November I brought up the idea, and when I found out that the pastor was up for doing the service, I signed on to do the music (guy & guitar style). One song based upon Chopin (of several) uploaded - titled "Just Believe" - the lyrics are available - if I can be so bold, what do you think?

Hey Charles, I hope all is well with you. Retired but not out I hope.

You are a wise & experienced Man of God. Your wealth of experience is essential for new worship leaders to glean from. Even tho the songs are different today the key purpose is still the same. I really appreciate reading your comments to songwriters, outlining your thoughts about songs.

I have a similar outlook.

Worship songs = Singing to God.

Praise songs = Singing about God.

Testimony = personal story about experience.

Inspirational songs = encouragement to the church.

Keep commenting & being effective. This network needs your voice.

Hey Charles, just read one of your posts in the forums...I hope you're finding a place where you can minister in worship. Can't let these "retirements or something" go on forever, you know!
Blessings. Rick
