Pass It On has passed on...

Kurt Kaiser, writer of "Pass It On" and some of the other early songs of "contemporary worship," passed away in Waco Texas this past Monday.  Who besides me is old enough to remember getting in trouble for singing "Pass It On" in church 'cause it was too rock 'n' rolly? My first real experience with "contemporary Christian music" was playing guitar for the youth choir at First Baptist Church in Castro Valley, CA, doing the musical "Tell It Like It Is" in the early 1970s.…See More

Psalm 17

So I think I've mentioned here before having a long-term project to write and record my own "psalmody."  This is something loosely inspired by Psalm 17 - I'm not trying to do a musical setting of Biblical text on these, just to find some idea in each psalm that would make a good song and then build on that based on the rest of the psalm.Lyric for this was originally written in 1998, musical setting & recording may have been done around 2010, and the new verses in 2017.  So I've been working…See More

Blue Christmas

Posted on December 22, 2008 at 3:26pm 1 Comment

Last night, our church had our first-ever "Blue Christmas" service. Here's an article that explains the idea:

Although I'm not playing in the worship band right now, I am still on the worship committee at church, and back in October or November I brought up the idea, and when I found out that the pastor was up for doing the service, I signed on to do the music (guy & guitar style). Our church has connections to… Continue

One song based upon Chopin (of several) uploaded - titled "Just Believe" - the lyrics are available - if I can be so bold, what do you think?

Hey Charles, I hope all is well with you. Retired but not out I hope.

You are a wise & experienced Man of God. Your wealth of experience is essential for new worship leaders to glean from. Even tho the songs are different today the key purpose is still the same. I really appreciate reading your comments to songwriters, outlining your thoughts about songs.

I have a similar outlook.

Worship songs = Singing to God.

Praise songs = Singing about God.

Testimony = personal story about experience.

Inspirational songs = encouragement to the church.

Keep commenting & being effective. This network needs your voice.

Blessings. Rick
