Well said Luis,

My greatest gains have come from rudiments and a metronome ! the other thing that I always try to do is practice what I can't do YET ! and at this point, that is a LOT but it won't stop me from learning. God is wonderfully patient and so are most people if you help them to be !

HI DAVEY,The most important thing to remember is that the LORD looks at your heart, so playing for HIM is what makes HIM rejoice,as he created you to worship HIM.It is important to learn, and play skilfully, unto the LORD, as this also makes us confident when playing.Important is learning all the rudiments, and starting slowly, then faster, but consistent timing. It is important to practice with a metronome,or a click as to learn to play in time ,and also to do fills in time,if you are right handed, practice more your left, and visa versa, learn to play soft and loud,as to be sensitive to the flow of the HOLY SPIRIT, as this allows the dynamics of music to be heard.BLESS YOU, and be my friend-LUIS

Hi and Praise the lord! i'm Davey Judah and i drum for Halel Community Church in Dansoman, Acrra, Ghana. Though i like it when i'm the one driving the rhythm of the songs being ministered, i love it when i get led by the holy spirit in the heart of worship, kinda has this overwhealming feeling...that God actually likes what He's hearing from little old me. Well i'm not that good when it comes to skills, but i know my way around the kit. I was hoping if i could find someone to mentor me...maybe point me in the right direction. Fortunately there are tons of good christian Drummers here and i feel my prayer is close to being answered.

Hi Tom .its great to see men of GOD always ready to do what the LORD has placed on their hearts, and dont look at age as an obstacle, the good news is that at 70 you can still be playing the drums, where if you were playing certain sports you would have to slow down.I have always played right handed, and eventually started doing a lot of rudiments .starting with my left, and exercising, this side of my limbs, both hands and feet, where i started playing openhanded, this helped a lot with different styles, such as Latin, and Jazz grooves.
all the best,GOD BLESS - LUIS

Practice !

I am 43 and started playing last year. Working on independence has been the most important thing for me. That and listening to a lot of music :) I have finally learned to play what I feel and not what the other drummers are playing if its not from my heart then its not really for God and I feel God called me to play so I am going to Play for Him.

If you would like some independence drills that have helped me, just ask, I would be happy to share them.

God Bless

I am 47 and have never played drums. The need at our church is for a drummer which will let our pastor preach (he does both now). My wife also leads Praise and Worship so we can hang more as a whole family (2 kids) and Worship God. Please pray with us as we believe God can make this happen quickly, for His Glory!!!
I have started a DVD lesson series and have the pastor to help along with a spare set of drums from the church. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. Thanks and God Bless!

I play a Dejembe on our worship team, and seem to like it more than I did playing drums. And I prefer an acoustic set over electronic, sorry Steve. I do like the way you play your Zen drum though.

I know this sounds crazy, but does anyone have tips on opening crashes quickly. I get so paranoid of the sound of the sticks hitting the cymbals when trying to start soft.

Just picked up a steal deal at the Pawn shop. A yamaha stage custom advantage 6 pc. shell set. Completely clean and completely out of tune for $350. I've decided to make it my church kit and sounds pretty good tuned.

I'm currently playing on a Pearl Sessions Custom set with Aquarius 2 ply tom heads , and an Emad kick head. I have a 16" old school steel snare and a 14" Yamaha Musashi snare all sporting 2 ply Remo coated heads. I also use Zildian A custom 22",19", 17", 14" fast crash and a ZHT 10" splash. I also use the DW 8002 double pedals and Pearl High hat. This is both my home and worship set as we have a set up and breakdown fellowship for now. I've only been playing 3 years but have been gifted by God to play in this worship team. I totally apreciate everyone who can play less pieces than I with such skill, and tried myself I just miss all the other peices. LOL.
