Kurt Kaiser, writer of "Pass It On" and some of the other early songs of "contemporary worship," passed away in Waco Texas this past Monday. Who besides me is old enough to remember getting in trouble for singing "Pass It On" in church 'cause it was too rock 'n' rolly?
My first real experience with "contemporary Christian music" was playing guitar for the youth choir at First Baptist Church in Castro Valley, CA, doing the musical "Tell It Like It Is" in the early 1970s.
I remember the song but I didn't get scolded for playing it "too fast" - just the organist didn't like like it for her playing style. A lovely man by all accounts and some good songs like... Oh how he loves you and me etc.
