I just finished this worship song and would love to hear what you think. It's a rough recording, and the bridge ending was a spontaneous thing that just came...

Hey Rachel,

What I love is that this song is clearly a prayer to the Lord. Great chord progression and melody too. Keep going girl!!!

Oh...and thanks for being a friend to the AllAboutWorship Podcast! :)

Hi Rachel, this is a really powerful song. The words are amazing! It really hit me! We don't really sing too many songs at our church specifically about confession ("The Heart Of Worship" by Matt Redman is one of the only ones I can think of). The development of the song is really great, the way it recognizes Jesus as our King at the start, then recognizes how we've fallen short, asks forgiveness then ends with praise and worship at the end. This is a real confession prayer/song in action.

You've also mixed some really contemporary words and phrases with real biblical imagery and prophecy. Some lines that stand out for me are "I must confess that Ive sadly and badly mistaken your throne for my seat" and "Jesus, break my legs so all I have left is knees, To kneel before thee, humbly, like I ought to". I've never heard the line "Jesus, break my legs" in church before!

Musically there are some really nice phrases in there and a few guitar hooks (in between the chorus and verse) you could latch onto to use as intros/outros etc.

If you're looking to improve some things one thing I noticed was you started the song in 4/4 time, but about halfway through the line "I must confess that Ive sadly and badly mistaken your throne for my seat" you change to 6/8. I think time signature changes in a song are fine, but maybe you should make the change more defined, rather than right in the middle of a line. It's not that clear in your recording. It might even be worth doing the whole song either 4/4 or 6/8. I think 6/8 would probably work better. If you're going to use both time signatures have a play with how you can smoothly integrate the two.

Anyway, great stuff Rachel. Keep up the good work and be blessed!

Take care

Matt
