Worship is NOT:
The part of the church service where you sing and pray.
Colored lights and jumping around.
Certain songs that "feel" right.
A guy with a guitar.
Clapping your hands because the worship leader did it.
Raising your hands because the guy next to you did.
Singing the words off the screen.
Just what you do on sundays.
Just what you do at church camp.
Just what you do at a conference.
15 minutes of songs before the pastor preaches.
The feeling you get when the song "revs up".
A feeling at all.
Speaking in tongues, being slain in the spirit, laughing, dancing or shouting.
The constant renewal of your commitment to following Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit in you every day, every hour, for the rest of your life.
Worship is forever.
There are no constraints to worship, you dont box worship in to a time or a space or a place.
Scripture says that "in the spirit of the Lord there is freedom" and "true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. "
Worship is twofold, there is corporate worship that most "Christians" are accustomed to and there is communal worship. These two may seem one in the same but they are certainly very different. Corporate worship is the act of fellowship with other Christ followers in worshipping together through intercession, music, artistic expression, etc. While communal worship is the every day act of fellowshipping with the Father on a one-on-one basis. This is a renewal process that should never be out of habit but out of desire.
All too often we get stuck in the habit of "worshipping". We may understand that we are created to bring praise to God and yet we continue to blindly offer the same things up to him until it isn't a daily sacrifice of praise, its a chore.
Fasting is the act of abstaining from somthing in order to get closer to God. I believe there is a "worship fast" deeply needed for the Church of 2010. We cannot and will not have revival until we earnestly seek the heart of the father. A worship fast is simply changing the way you think and participate in worshipping. It is a change of heart and mind. "1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
The Spirit is calling, He desires your friendship and love. His heart is aching for His beloved to put down the things that are standing in the way of a constant connection and to put on His never ending praise.
Join me in standing out from the worlds view of "worship" and truly begin to seek the heart of the Father.
