Standing Between the Problem and the Power

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
(Romans 15:13, NLT)

What's your problem?  We have either asked, or have been asked, that question.  And the question may have been asked in a couple of different contexts.  On the one hand the intent may have been vicious; on the other hand someone may have had the best intentions with a sincere desire to help.  But if we're all honest with ourselves there is something that we can call a "problem" currently lurking in our lives.  You may call it a "challenge," but at the end of the day it's something (or someone) that has invaded your personal space in an effort to take your mind off those things that are most important.  I call them distractions.   When you are walking in God's plan and purpose for your life, distractions are everywhere.  Our job as saints is to get a handle on our distractions and recognize them for what they are.  I've had many distractions this week from different sources.  God had to show me what was really happening and how subtle satan is.  Satan does his best work in the mind, and if we're not careful, he will keep our minds cluttered with things that really don't matter in light of God's purpose for our lives.

Today's text helps us get a handle on our distractions.  It speaks of trust, joy, peace, and the hope available to us through the power of the Holy Spirit.  All of these are at the worshiper's disposal.  For the intentional praiser, a problem is just a means to go higher in God.  Sometimes I've had to sing my way through my problem.  There were times when worship brought me to a higher, clearer perspective.  Are you standing between your problem and God's power?  Meditate on today's passage.  Let your sincere praises of God work for you while you move closer to His power, and away from focus on your problem.
