Fall is once again upon us and here in the upper Midwest we are witnessing some beautiful colors as the season changes. This year has been a year of changes for many. The economy, housing market, jobs and political environment has been in a dramatic flux for months and many are wondering about the new season of change in our country that is about to take place. While we must be proactive in being involved in our churches, communities and in voting etc..., the key to true peace and joy in our lives will only come from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
As I was preparing to write this month's newsletter, the Lord drew me to Jeremiah 29:11-14. In this passage we are reminded that what God said to the children of Israel back then is still powerful and a now word for us today! Let's read this passage:
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
14 I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
What a wonderful reminder that God has His thoughts toward you and me today. That He desires to give us hope and a future. But what is that most important key that follows this promise? That we will call upon Him and pray (worship) and He will listen. As you seek Him with all your heart, you'll be found by Him and he will gather you close to Him in that secret place - Hallelujah!
So right now, in the midst of your difficult situation, begin to seek Him with all your heart by worshiping Him and thanking Him for ALL that He has already done in your life. While your problems or the world situation may look overwhelming in the natural, know that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is still on the throne and He has a perfect plan for your life.
In closing, it's easy to focus on all the negatives and difficult to find the good things in our lives. But when we spend the time in the word of God reading HIS promises toward us, spending time in HIS presence in prayer and personal worship, we will see the situations that we face through the eyes of the Holy Spirit. It's the Holy Spirit who gives us that peace, understanding and discernment to maneuver through the chaos that wants to overwhelm us. Let's praise His name and lay everything down at His feet and let God release His hope and change through our lives today. Amen!
