Recently, I was ministering in Atlanta GA. where a dear friend of mine pastors an incredible church. I was staying with him and his family for those few days and during that time we talked about many things including church, ministry and where we thought everything could be heading regarding the church and the body of Christ.
During one of our conversations, he shared some things that was stirring his heart about ministry and church but was saying it in such a way that it was connecting and speaking to my heart for many of the same reasons.
Some of the things that were said in our conversation were speaking to me so strongly that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and I've even been praying more earnestly about it since. What am I talking about? Signs, Wonders and Revivals.
That very phrase can bring on positive and/or negative thoughts and feelings all based on what we know of from either experience or what we have read or heard second hand. The problem with that phrase today, in America primarily, is that it's used so much to promote a ministry or conference event somewhere. We have become so hungry for a move of God that when just the littlest thing happens supernaturally somewhere, we are willing to label it, promote it and put it on Christian T.V. without having any real discernment as to what God really wants to do.
Since our discussion, I have been asking God about the Signs, Wonders & Revivals! Why are so many getting so excited about gold dust, feathers and orbs in pictures taken from a meeting? Don't misunderstand me here, I know that God releases these types of things but there are also counterfeits out there as well. We just seem to take everything immediately at face value without any wisdom or discernment or without validating it through the word of God.
As I was praying about these things, the Lord began to gently remind me about His character in all these things, through the word of God. You see, there are some "charismatic freak shows" going on in some churches and even in some conferences, but wouldn't be if people really knew the word of God like they should.
I know I may be stepping on some toes, but the truth of God's word is "Yes and Amen" in all things, especially when it comes to the gifts of the Spirit. Trying to wow people with words like "mystic" is what is called as mixing New Age with the Charismatic movement. This is very dangerous ground and some also refer the anointing of the Holy Spirit by equating it like a drug effect feeling is border line blasphemous in my opinion.
But here is what the Lord was speaking to me that prompted me to even write this. The Holy Spirit showed me in the word, that Jesus always did the miracles to reveal the Father. The Apostles in the book of Acts, when filled with the Holy Spirit, always did the miracles, signs and wonders to reveal Jesus so that "many would be saved and brought into the Kingdom!"
Now, the Holy Spirit will do miracles, signs and wonders for the believer as it causes our faith to arise and it edifies our spirit as well. The problem has been that it's only been the believers running to these events where they are advertised to be at without hardly any unbelievers coming to Jesus Christ because of it. So to me, we haven't really solved the issue about the primary purpose of signs, wonders and revivals.
I believe that we are really going to have to press in more and deeper to get to that place where like in Acts 3:1-10, we are living daily like Peter and John.
1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer-at three in the afternoon.
2 Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!"
5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."
7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong.
8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Believe me, when this type of anointing falls and the true signs and wonders began to happen, you won't have to advertise it - At All! People, including the lost, will be flocking by the hundreds to see God move.
But guess what? It's not so we, the believers, can see the miracles and have a Holy Ghost goose-bump party, it's so that the unbelievers will see that Jesus Christ is very real and that He loves them and wants to heal them, deliver them and set them free and give them eternal life with Him.
I want the signs, wonders and revivals, but it comes with a price - just ask Jesus and the Apostles. I want them to happen so that thousands will be saved and the kingdom of God will expand massively. I'm at a place now that God is stirring me to go deeper to that place where He can have all of me. It's in that place where our lives no longer matter but that His will and His desires are all I care about. Am I 100% there yet? No, but I am asking God to do it even though the price maybe hard.
God is restoring His church and bride. I've said this before many times, if it was good enough for Jesus and for the Apostles to pay the price for, then it's good enough for me to follow after as well. May you be stirred in your heart to desire the sign's, wonders and to be a walking revival to change the lives of those around you for eternity.
