The inn, the birth, the manger. Mary, Joseph, and the wise men bearing gifts. Herod. When I re-read the first chapter of Matthew - slowly - I saw so many more reasons to praise God in addition to Jesus' coming to earth through a virgin. God is a strategic God; He leaves nothing to chance. I saw the blessings of confirmation, assurance, and protection. I saw God speaking to Joseph through dreams. I even saw Mary's obedience when the angel told her she would be the vessel that God chose to bring His Son into the world. I saw the favor of God. That was part of the message the angel delivered to Mary when he visited her. Divine assignments are not man-made, but God-ordained.
No man can ever thwart the plan of God. God knew it was in Herod's heart to destroy the newborn King, and revealed as much to Joseph in a dream. God's protection was on all the major players in this story. He confirmed His plans to Joseph even down to what to name the Christ Child. He spoke peace to the shepherds. Once the wise men had found Him, the Lord sent them back a different way.
God left nothing to chance in Jesus' coming into the world, and He leaves nothing to chance in our lives. He still speaks, He still confirms His Word, and He is still providing assurance of His care. God knows who, or what to move out of the way in order for His plans to go forth in our lives. Stay in God's face in worship; continue to praise Him in obedience. Stay close to Him, and watch Him show Himself strong in your life.
