Asking & Receiving in the Name of Jesus

Matthew 20:27-28 (NIV)
" ... and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

At church we talked about how we often think about Yahweh as being similar to the mythical man "Santa Claus."

I have to admit that I think of God that way sometimes.

"Santa" is someone whom we ask to give us things for ourselves. The concept is self-centered.

Some of church has been teaching to ask God for "Santa-Claus" type things.

Some in the church have been teaching "self-centeredness."

Self-centeredness is a sign of the last days, a characteristic that would be found in the church, but is not the true faith.

"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves ... lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God ..."  (2 Timothy 3:1-9)

On the other hand, Yeshua came, not to be served, but to be a ransom for many.

Yeshua did ask His Father for things, but not for himself.

He asked His Father for things according to His Father's will so that His Father would be glorified.

Yeshua is our example.

John 14:1214 (The Message)
"Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can't believe that, believe what you see—these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I'm doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I've been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I'll do it. That's how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, I'll do."
