So today I was reading my journals while working at the church office and a few things stuck out to me. One of these was out of Mark 4. I love this passage
30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”
In this passage Jesus is talking to his disciples and telling them many parables. It says that he only spoke to them in parables at this time. he begins to speak to them and just prior to this passage was asking them if they understand his parables. Then he asks them what parable they want to put with likening the kingdom of God. He goes on to tell them that it is like a mustard seed which is smaller than all other seeds, and if you have ever heard of how small it is.. well its tiny, very tiny. Even though this seed is very tiny it grows to have large branches and is greater than all herbs that grow, and the birds are able to nest under it.
I love this passage for more than one reason, but today I wanna talk about the main reason i love this passage and have always loved it. When it talks about the mustard seed, i compare that to our faith, because Jesus tells us in Matthew 17:20 that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed then we can tell a mountain to move and it shall move. Now here Jesus is using the mustard seed in the same sense with different words. We need to sow everything that is taught to us and that we learn from God's word. Now when i say sow i am meaning to plant. If we take in everything the bible teaches us and allow it to stay in our hearts and we continue to further our studies in the word we will grow tremendously just like that mustard seed. We are all small, in a sense, because when we are new to faith we have such an ignorance towards our beliefs. but the more that we learn from the bible and the more we take in and allow it to sit in our thoughts and put what we learn into action not only will our faith grow but we will grow closer to God then when we first came to Christ.
Now i know that i have been jumping all over the place with this blog, but there is so much that I got out of this I wanted to share it with all of you as well. The main point that i hope you all got out of this is to continue to grow closer to God daily. Don't let anything hold you back, the more you dig into his word and take to heart everything that is shared with us in the bible then the greater your faith will be as you go out and try to reach others and teach them what you have learned and to guide them. If I confused you at all just feel free to face book me a message or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org I'll bee glad to share more with you and help you have a better understanding of what i was hoping you would receive form this blog. God Bless
Father God i come to you right now and i want to thank you for all the things that you have done in my life and lives of my friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. Lord i ask that you will help me to grow closer to you and that i will plant in so much more of your word into my heart so that i may grow stronger in your word and be able to branch out and share you with others. I pray for all my friends and family that you will help them to grow closer to you as well and if they do not know you that they will come to know you and strive for that growth that i am striving for now. You are such a great and mighty God and I am so glad that I have you in my life. I pray that you will bless this day and protect each and everyone of us.
