"Update: I got rid of the resistor and diodes marked D2 and D3 in the schematic and changed the resistor in the op-amp feedback loop to a 5.6k on one diode and a 4.7k on the other. I think I'm keeping it this way now. Not as much gain as a…"
I'm the lead the guitarist of a nation travelling band and I'm constantly adjusting tone on the road...Every weekend we play in a different building so the audtitotiums are constantly brightening or darkening the sound…"
"I think you have more fun tweaking. For you, it's not about boutique or not. I built both of my amps from kits (Allen amps) and they're excellent amps. I saved about $200? by building them myself, so it wasn't about saving…"
"After playing with it a bit, one thing I have noticed about this circuit is that there's not a lot of room to drop the extra gain and recover the lost volume and shrieky high end, if that's what you like. I tried changing the…"
"I grew up as an organist. You see all of those drawbars and tabs on an organ (a possible 253,000,000 tones on a Hammond Organ)? They are not there to make the instrument loud... well, not completely (it does get loud). But they are…"
"That's why I put the winky after the comment. The Rat is what it is. I probably forced it into something it's not. But I have always liked the simplicity of the single op-amp into clipping diodes topology of that circuit, compared to some…"
"What? It's actually a staple of most any tone snob. Anything called "distortion" in my book moves from the realm of boo-teek into the realm of "dirt" and therefore anything goes. It's only in the "overdrive"…"
"I'm putting this here because admitting that one likes the old ProCo rat always invites the cork-sniffing boo-teek overdrive snobs to make snide comments. Admittedly, the version of the Rat that I'm using (c. 1985-1986 according to…"
"Agreed I too am a tone snob, trying to open an old post here. I believe we as the church should have just as professional and excellent sounding gear as any other famous artist. My tone is an extension of the voice God has given me."
"I prefer to say that I'm "inspired" by the rigs of others. Sounds better than "coveting" them!

"There's a good book out there about Arthur Guinness called The Search for God and Guinness which covers how the early beer makers were heralded as saints because beer was a healthier and less devastating option than hard liquor. Much of…"
"I love Egnater Amps. I use a Rebel 20 (Rebel 20 head on the Rebel 112 cab) because of the flexibility. Being able to dial between 1W and 20W allows me to use the same amp (and more importantly, the same settings) in church or at an…"
I have been playing guitar since 1993 and leading worship in various situations since 1994. I'm married to a lovely woman who is the full time Associate Pastor of Youth Ministry at our church. We have two kids and my wife was recently ordained. Now I'll never win any arguments!
I'm also involved in a recording project called Staircase Theory. We have an EP out and it is available on iTunes.
Anathallo, Cold Play, Cold War Kids, DC*B, Charlie Hall, The Myriad, David Wilcox, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Ben Folds, Fee, John Mayer, K-OS, Keane, Kings Of Leon, Modest Mouse, I mean how thorough should I be here?
Favourite Books / Authors
The Shack, anything by Douglas Adams, The Historian, anything by Don Miller or Rob Bell, Angels & Demons (prequel to the DaVinci Code, which in my opinion, is better), pretty much anything that could be considered "nerdy."
Favourite Bible Verses / Passages:
Psalm 137.9 - Blessed be those who steal away your little ones and dash their heads against the rocks. Ah, now that's turning the other cheek!
Glad to meet a homeboy. I used to live in Woodstock, NY when I was in the music business along time ago. We had a multimedia company that is now called the Woodstock Museum. It's too cold up there !!!!!
Hey Daniel, I wish you were closer too...I'd love to have some more musicians on my teams with the kind of passion and outlook on life that you seem to have! Just took a quick look at your blog site...hey, the Canon Digital Rebel rocks! That's what I use as well, and just love it (except for the wimpy flash...).
