Stage Fright~

Quite an interesting topic this issue of stage freight…

I don’t know any worship leader who doesn’t have it or at least struggled with it at some point and yet, there really doesn’t seem to be a concrete 12 step program for over coming it. This topic was brought up at our worship training session and our pastor opened the floor to suggestions; I don’t think any one of us had a good concrete answer. I thought I would jot down some of my thoughts on the topic and hopefully some of you… Continue

The heart of a worship leader is: Psalm 90

So, as I mentioned in my previous post: Today is my day to be a Mary, and just sit at the feet of Jesus to learn and to meditate and pray. I am taking a large portion of my day today to listen to the main speakers from the National Worship Leader Conference. Just now I finished watching the speaker Scotty Smith. Prior to that I watched most of David Nasser’s talk except it got cut off somewhere near the end.

Anyhow, Scotty’s talk was for the heart of the worship leader. I know there… Continue

So, in the recent weeks, I suppose it was about two weeks ago, our senior pastor gave a sermon that really reached into my heart. He was speaking about being more like Mary, because in this culture we are very much like Martha…doing doing doing. ( I am an extreme Martha who thrives on serving and doing)Well God allowed me to catch the latest Cold/flu virus that’s going around. Yes, God called me to be a Mary today. And funny coincidence (ok, definitely not a coincidence) My worship pastor put… Continue

Last night at the meeting.....God hit me over the head with an Electric guitarist :-)

We have just started doing a new thing at our church. Once a month worship discipleship meetings. Last night, the team members who were able to attend the National Worship Leaders Conference in KS this year each spoke about what they learned at the conference.

It’s so funny how God uses people to reach right into our soul. Our Electric guitarist was making facebook posts about how he had no idea what to say at the meeting. Of course I gave him a hard time and teased him a ton. So,… Continue

Falling at His Feet

I was re-reading one of my favorite books on Worship yesterday entitled “Face Down” by Matt Redman. I reached a certain page that stood out to me, though it really hadn’t on previous readings. I would like to share it with you all if I could:

~ Each time we gather together as a worshipping community, we must find way to reflect these aspects of the nature and character of God. The songs are one thing. But it goes way beyond the music. It’s our whole approach. Are we preparing our… Continue

You certainly do have the gift of encouragement...

I'm loving Kauflin so far... I just finished the 5th chapter.

Oh by the way, give me a few days to get music to you. I have to actually make up the chord sheets. FYI, Unveil (klovesong), is loosely based on 2 cor 3 if that is helpful at all. And everyone always points out the harmonies on that one. Me and Chris recorded that video on a whim. Chris had never actually heard it before that. We played through it about three times before we got that take. Chris is amazing with harmonies! I on the other hand am harmony stupid. He sing with me in church a lot.

Well, its the church's music so... I think I'm okay sharing it with the church... Should I not be? Don't get me wrong, if God bless beyond the simple satisfaction of knowing that other people are using my music in a ministry context then so be it. But for now, I'll just share it and leave the implications up to Jesus. He's trustworthy, right? : )

About the Redman books... Yes, I have read facedown as well. I throughly enjoyed both of those books. In their own way each has had a significant impact on my life and ministry. I read through each of them a few times a year... There is a lot of wisdom to be gleamed. He is a very good thinker and he makes some very insightful scriptural observations about worship.

I really was blessed by your blog... Thanks!

The verse texts are from an old hymn that I first learned about when I was reading a biography of Oswald Chambers. It was sung at his funeral. I set it to new music. I have actually never heard original music.

Rebecca, thanks so much for your encouraging words. I'm working on a preproduction demo at the moment. I have recorded a few songs and need to record a few more. I am hoping to recorded a full ep sometime before the end of September. So to answer your question, no, I do not have any recordings at this time. Just the YT stuff at the moment. If there is a song that you really like let me know and I will make up a chord sheet for you. My goal in writing songs is to write songs the church sings so anything that you use will be a profound blessing to me. -Grace & Peace DL
