Allan Midgley replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Small groups' in the group Non-Church Worship Leader's Group
"Here, we also have a few groups ( one or two) that go around the Prisons here in Tasmania. One is called Soul Revival - they play Christian Blues style music and a little rock as well then walk around the area ( with permission) and talk to anyone…"

David Straley replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Small groups' in the group Non-Church Worship Leader's Group
"I haven't tried it but I think it's a great idea. However, there's a huge difference between leading worship for a home group vs. a retreat. A home group takes much more commitment because of how often it happens, and the crowd size…"

Dave Swann replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Alternate Tunings' in the group Acoustic Guitarists
"I have been using a Breedlove Concert model with Nashville tuning and have been very pleased with the tones I get.  It is a nice change from my other acoustic which has standard tuning.  Dave Swann"

"Open C is a great tuning - it has several large ringing notes and allows for a lot of playing up the neck and has a lot of sustain and bass.. Bruce Cockburn's "Foxglove" is done in this tuning. I'm working on this for…"

"Now all those strange, other-worldly tunings that you mention here and that I've seen on the Andy Mckee albums have baffled me! How do you learn how to play in all these tunings and what's special about them? Are they even ideal for the…"

Stewart Garry replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Alternate Tunings' in the group Acoustic Guitarists
"Hey nick I worte an instrumental album in the style of Andy Mckee, Eric Roche. In this I used a number of tunings such as...DGDGAD, ECDGAD, CGDFBbD, DGDF#AD, BGDGAD, these are all fun to mess around in :) espesially if you use tapping techniques :D"

Jason Buechner replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Alternate Tunings' in the group Acoustic Guitarists
"I love DADGAD and drop D, but another one I've never heard of elsewhere is one that I learned from Steven Curtis Chapman that I call Drop A. It's standard tuning with the B string dropped down to an A (EADGAE). This produces a very nice,…"

Shawn R Dugan replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Alternate Tunings' in the group Acoustic Guitarists
"I use an odd tuning for one song I wrote, "He Is Our Peace" - I call it Drop B: Tune low E down to a B (yes, a B - not all guitars will tolerate this) and the A up to a B (which, I realize, is antithetical to the name of the…"

Sue replied to Nick Olson's discussion 'Small groups' in the group Non-Church Worship Leader's Group

A call to perserverance

Hebrews 10: 19-25

Therefore, brothers since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having out hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for… Continue

Back in the Saddle

So in reality I am much more a bass player than a guitarist. I started playing guitar when I was 12 and bass a year after that. Through middle school and high school I played bass in our Jazz bands (not to mention numerous teenage garage bands) :). My senior year of high school I started a band with my girlfriend (now my lovely wife) and some of our friends. From the get go we decided that our ministry was going to be leading God's people in worship. God blessed us to be able to play all over… Continue

Hi!
I guess I missed to comment back to you. The dubbel "s" in my last name is very common in Sweden, but you're right about that it isn't a worldwide spelling. Isn't Olson a Swedish name? Do you have any Swedish ancestors?

Hey Nick,
Thanks for your reply. Fishing, wow, I would love to fly fish again, but since having kids I haven't. My favorite places to fish when I did were Bear Lake and the Oakanagan in Kelowna Canada. My dad and I stayed out under the mood light in our float tubes fishing. It was awesome. I felt one with nature. = ) I will tell Brian you said hi.

We have keyboard, bass, acoustic, drums, and 4 vocals. We are looking to add electric guitar from our youth team soon. We are a small church with not much room to play so we don't want to get too many people yet. We will in the future I'm sure.

Thanks! I am always looking for new and exciting things to add to the worship service. We are learning a lot of new music and trying to add instruments as we get members excited about it. Where do you go for background images to use with media shout for our projectors? Any info would be helpful. God Bless.
