It has begun.... what has begun? I don't know

I think that you've nailed the issue here. There is no reason to rub anything in anyone's face, but the attacks we faced from people over the issue of musical style were pretty un-Christian if you ask me. There were personal attacks on our pastor, m…

I don't have an anecdote that I can tell you at the minute that I can remember but I am currently listening to a message from IHOP called "The Worth of Christ and Incessant Worship" by Stephen Venable. I have only gotten 30 minutes in and already it…

I think it (Bill Gothard spirit-soul-body charts and the Peters seminars) has been debunked already by reality. Beethoven was not a heathen for using jazz riffs (he really did).

I serve in a rural Gospel + urban Gospel evangelical denomination in which a pipe organ is never seen or heard (I came in at night sometimes to play Bach). But the B3+Leslie was astonishingly popular in almost every age group - hymn or urban-Gospel…

Isn't there some counterpoint in it?

Organ is a monster instrument when played well, but I think it has it's place. A big pipe organ or even a big electronic organ doesn't seem fit with ensemble playing since it covers the whole sound space well. But a Hammond B3 - that's another story…

Even finesse isn't enough if played like you're at a ballgame or Branson Missouri. Organ is like a Pit Bull - wonderful if understood and treated properly, but terrible if not.

God wants us to give to Him whatever He has given to us. This isn't to say that we can't try to do things that God didn't condition us to do - but if you are blessed with a great organist and a great organ, and you don't use it, something is lost in…

Musical Gift(s):
piano, voice, theory, teaching, violin, (coming soon the mandolin)
About Me:
I've been involved with worship teams since I was 8 years old. My first worship job was to switch the worship slides on the old fashion projector. I continued with piano studies and spent most of my Jr high and high school years as a substitute pianist for various churches in the area. I then began playing for a worship team at an Assemblies of God church in Lake Havasu City for a while before college. I went to Northern Arizona University and graduated in December of 2008. Throughout college I led worship for an Assemblies of God church in Flagstaff, and now I'm the music director for a Church in Ohio.
Favourite Music:
I like a lot of things, but some of my favorites are Robin Marks, Jars of Clay, Sara Groves, Sixpence None the Richer, (I cried when they broke up), and Kathryn Scott. From my musical tastes, and instruments you can tell I like a lot of folk style music.
Favourite Bible Verses / Passages:
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

"The Very Best of Hillsong Live... Again"

Reviewing a compilation album can render both reader and writer towards fatigue, so I will use this opportunity to present an idea to the mega
church down under.
Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for

Hillsong. I know a lot of mega churches try to find their own musical

niche, (Mars Hills Church comes to mind), but the reality is, Hills

New Song (well, lyrics anyways)

I received some inspiration from the Holy Spirit last Sunday after the services. A passage of scripture the message was based on really spoke to me, and began writing these lyrics. I just finished them, and thought maybe you guys would have some opinions. The passage is 1 Corinthians 9:16-23.

Verse 1
What have I read, within this page
Reach those in need by becoming all things
All that I know all I have tried
My flesh wants to stay the same
Your Word compels me otherwise
Pre-Chorus
This is when… Continue

Bring It Down Lyrics

Bring It Down

Verse 1

What a wondrous love filled by the Lord’s fountain
Sustained by the veins of Christ, shed to bring redemption

Pre-Chorus 1

Even though we disobey He’ll never leave us
We can raise our hands and say with all confidence

Chorus

Our God is great our God is strong our God has power over all
And our God is love our God is peace when salvation was out of reach
He sent His Son to bring it down He brought it down

Verse 2

Who can comprehend His miraculous hand
He tamed the wi… Continue

Thanks for the kind words and the friendship. My wife and I are excited about finding a place of full-time ministry, and we are trusting God to lead us to that place that will be a great fit for us and a great fit for the church. We are visiting a place today that is near our home. It would be awesome if God would open a door there since it's so close, but His will not ours.

Stay in touch Matthew and look forward to hearing the final product.

When you've got the mandolin down, let me know...I'm trying to convince our guitarists it's a good idea...they're not having a bar of it...LOL Bless you, thanks for sharing your music, and as Elman said, a blog with the lyrics would be great.

Hey Matthew, could you post your lyrics in a blog to Bring It Down. I really enjoyed listening but I lost a few words as I was listening.

I don't remember where we landed. It was like 2 months after 9/11 and everyone was afraid to fly at the time. So we never even got out of the plane. We stayed in our seats watching real close as everyone walked in like we were FBI agents. Hey, the ticets were pretty cheap though. hah

Hey Matthew, I landed in Arizona once while flying to somewhere else. Arizona was brown that day. :^)
