"Sara Groves "The Word" is a great song, I've not used the verses in corporate worship as they're a bit hard to sing, but I have actually just used the chorus before."

Matthew Edey replied to Steven White's discussion 'Are new worship songs too complicated?'
"Well, my experience with "How He Loves" is that every time I've done it, it goes over so well, and is one of my congregations most favorite songs (they probably sing that one louder than most hymns), despite the fact that it's…"

Matthew Edey replied to Greg Moore's discussion 'Out-of-the-Box instrumentation'
"I've personally found the standard praise team (Drums, Bass, acoustic & electric guitars, and maybe keys) boring since they became standard. (I also find that kind of secular music boring too). The trouble is, the bands that make eclectic…"

Steven DeMott replied to Matthew Edey's discussion 'Sound System inquiry/Bose L1 Model 15'
"Yes - we used a set of these for our contemporary service for about a year. Here are my thoughts: Bose has a very tailored top end - I find it strident, not natural at all. They really didn't work well without floor monitors, we couldn't…"

Sound System inquiry/Bose L1 Model 15

Hey, just to be clear, I am not spam, and I don't work for Bose lolWe are in the stages of researching for a new power amp and main speakers, and by chance I was given a demonstration of the Bose PA systems while browsing in Guitar Center the other day.I remember reading something about this a few years ago, but what is drawing me to this system is that it advertises that you no longer need stage monitors, (which for our sanctuary set up would do wonders as we do not have a stage, and the only…See More

About Me:
I'm a music director at Christ for All Nations in San Francisco CA. I was called into music ministry in the middle of college. I've had a lot of ups and downs, but really enjoying the direction I'm heading since I moved to San Francisco in 2012.
Favourite Music:
I have a typical affinity for all things acoustic, indie and singer/song writer. Music that sounds more organic, or that came from a jam session instead of someone producing/arranging from a computer. Some of my all time favorite artists are Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Fiona Apple, Arcade Fire and Florence & The Machine.
Favourite Books / Authors
Too many to list.
Favourite Bible Verses / Passages:
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

"The Very Best of Hillsong Live... Again"

Posted on May 24, 2010 at 3:30pm 2 Comments

Reviewing a compilation album can render both reader and writer towards fatigue, so I will use this opportunity to present an idea to the mega

church down under.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for

Hillsong. I know a lot of mega churches try to find their own musical

niche, (Mars Hills Church comes to mind), but the reality is,…

New Song (well, lyrics anyways)

Posted on February 11, 2009 at 4:42pm 2 Comments

I received some inspiration from the Holy Spirit last Sunday after the services. A passage of scripture the message was based on really spoke to me, and began writing these lyrics. I just finished them, and thought maybe you guys would have some opinions. The passage is 1 Corinthians 9:16-23.

Verse 1

What have I read, within this page

Reach those in need by becoming all things

All that I know all I have tried

My flesh wants to stay the same

Your Word compels… Continue

Bring It Down

Verse 1

What a wondrous love filled by the Lord’s fountain

Sustained by the veins of Christ, shed to bring redemption

Pre-Chorus 1

Even though we disobey He’ll never leave us

We can raise our hands and say with all confidence

Chorus

Our God is great our God is strong our God has power over all

And our God is love our God is peace when salvation was out of reach

He sent His Son to bring it down He… Continue

Thanks for the kind words and the friendship. My wife and I are excited about finding a place of full-time ministry, and we are trusting God to lead us to that place that will be a great fit for us and a great fit for the church. We are visiting a place today that is near our home. It would be awesome if God would open a door there since it's so close, but His will not ours.

When you've got the mandolin down, let me know...I'm trying to convince our guitarists it's a good idea...they're not having a bar of it...LOL Bless you, thanks for sharing your music, and as Elman said, a blog with the lyrics would be great.

Hey Matthew, could you post your lyrics in a blog to Bring It Down. I really enjoyed listening but I lost a few words as I was listening.

I don't remember where we landed. It was like 2 months after 9/11 and everyone was afraid to fly at the time. So we never even got out of the plane. We stayed in our seats watching real close as everyone walked in like we were FBI agents. Hey, the ticets were pretty cheap though. hah

Hey Matthew, I landed in Arizona once while flying to somewhere else. Arizona was brown that day. :^)
