J Pettigrew replied to David Harrell's discussion 'Using "How He Loves" by John Mark McMillan in Worship'
"We do this song in B or in A. It keeps the vocals low enough that the average Joe ( or Joan ) can hit the bigger notes without straining, but doesn't take away from the big powerful chorus. It puts it right in the middle so males or females can…"

J Pettigrew replied to PC's discussion 'Adding new musicians'
"PC, I would also recommend you consider using one "band" for an entire month, then rotate to "band B", etc. This will keep the same team members together every time, and be less distracting for your congregation, as the team…"

J Pettigrew replied to Peter Park's discussion 'How do you create community with your worship team?'
"We all go out drinking together. OK, Not really! This actually just came up at our staff meeting. We are planning on doing the after church lunch outings, and having some sort of team fun time. A concert sounds like a great idea!"

J Pettigrew replied to Chris Brinkley's discussion 'Contemporized Hymns???'
"I stand corrected... you're right, I should have said just about every POPULAR hymn. I'm with you. I've been scouring my hymnals for songs that have not been redone, but would sound great using a more modern sound."

J Pettigrew replied to Chris Brinkley's discussion 'Contemporized Hymns???'
"Just about every hymn has been redone with a more contemporary spin on it. I would suggest you simply use Google to search for the name of a familiar hymn, and add the name of some of our more recent worship leaders. For instance, Chris Tomlin, Paul…"

J Pettigrew replied to Wayne Pau's discussion 'Gear & Equipment Review'
"I'll be using it exclusively at church. I will only be keeping the receiver a few feet from me, so distance won't be an issue. We have three wireless mics that we use, but that's it. Everything else uses cables. Signal drops would be…"

J Pettigrew replied to Wayne Pau's discussion 'Gear & Equipment Review'

J Pettigrew replied to Jerry Simandl's discussion 'Rehearsal Tools'
"I use a website called worshipteam.com. It's password protected, and free to the team members. You can get an account for only $20/month for up to 20 users. The great thing is that you are the one that uploads the music (if it's not…"

J Pettigrew replied to Shane Goh's discussion 'Vocal Exercises'
"I do my best to yell at my kids as often as possible. That seems to work pretty well. Just kidding! Other than that, I don't have any tips. I hope someone else replies so that perhaps we can both benefit from their ACTUAL wisdom!"

J Pettigrew replied to Kyla Rachel Kelsey's discussion 'How to deal with...'
"If there is one thing I have learned in my year's of ministry it's that communication within the leadership of the church is key. If you have a problem with how your pastor manages you, then address the issue with your pastor. Respectfully…"

WorshipTeam.com and more

I use www.worshipteam.com to manage my worship team and provide them with the necessary means to practice ahead of time, etc. It has become a very valuable resource, for low cost. I'm curious, though, if you use a similar product that does not incur a monthly fee, membership, etc. Thanks!See More

J Pettigrew replied to Shezz's discussion 'Secular Songs in church ??'
"There's only one reason I don't play secular rock songs in church. It's not a theological reason at all. I use only Christian rock songs because they don't get the exposure that secular songs do. There are enough bands covering…"

J Pettigrew replied to James Sullivan's discussion 'Flow of Service'
