All I want to do is worship God in spirit and in truth
“Easy like Sunday morning” is the best way to describe the melodic sound of contemporary guitarist/vocalist John Fitzgerald McGill. Simply known as “Fitz”, this South Carolina native is a true “heart” musician– who plays “from the inside out” to make music that restores hope in love, life and universal peace.
Fitz’s relationship with his instrument goes back to his childhood when his father first placed a battery operated toy guitar in his then four year old son hands. His father immediately took note of his young son’s gift and before long had a real guitar designed especially for Fitz’s small hands. At the tender age of five years old he played for his first audience at his local church in Clover, South Carolina and he has continued to “wow” his listeners ever since.
Fitz’s love of music and his instrument fueled a diligence and perseverance that was rare for youngsters his age but his strong passion for excellence led him to continue to “hone in” on this gift. As a teenager – he traveled and recorded with gospel group Bill Crawford and the Modernaires as lead guitarist. Quickly gaining notoriety for his smooth sound and skill - Fitz would branch out from gospel and play in both high school and college bands which helped to introduce him to many other genres of music.
Fast forward to today – and Fitz has developed into a highly sought after studio and traveling musician and vocalist who has for over the last twenty nine years played with many gospel as well as contemporary heavy weights. From Gospel to contemporary Christian, rock, blues, jazz and top forty– his versatility yet love affair with his instrument continues to deliver a sound that is unique and powerfully anointed. From session musician to traveling on the road with Tyler Perry, back to television spots and even scoring feature films – the range and scope of Fitz’s gift continues to expand.
Fitz has played with Bobby Jones, Juanita Bynum, Canton Jones, Shirley Caesar, Freda Battle featuring Israel Houghton, Ronald Winans, Kelly Price, Johnny Gill and Teddy Riley – just to name a very few. Presently he plays guitar for Pastor Creflo Dollar's Change conventions
Currently in the studio working on his first solo project to be released in Summer 2009 – Fitz has pulled together some of his choice guest artists on this project.
“God has blessed me to be able to make a universal sound with my instrument and I give him all the glory. I believe that I have become “all things to all music genres that I might win some”, says Fitz. “My first solo album simply called “Fitz” will have something that everyone can enjoy. I am super excited!”
