OK, first the background story..... one of our church members recently donated a guitar to me. It used to belong to her husband, who (very sadly) died of cancer a few years back - it has been in her…Continue

About Me:
I am the worship leader for St. John's Church, Yeadon, U.K. (http://www.stjohnsyeadon.org) - a smallish, but growing, church just north of Leeds, West Yorkshire. I've been writing worship songs, on and off, for about 13 years, when I get the time. This isn't so very often: I'm married, and a father of four young children! I also have a day-job - I am a lecturer in the maths department at the University of Leeds.

Worship stuff: Stuart Townend, Tim Hughes, Holy CD, Neil Bennetts.....

Bible study
Last autumn, I tried writing a set of bible studies, covering (in a broad brush way) the "whole of the bible" in seven studies. Take a look here, if you're interested.

Daniel, let me encourage you to keep writing. I can tell your songs work in your church, they are very hymn like. 'Jesus Son of God' is a favorite.

You bet! It's a healthy discussion. I like to get to bottom of things no matter if someone agrees with me or not.

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to "I'm Refugee from He Must Increase.com".

Do you think we might be able to get Julia to come over to the other side as well?

For Easter, I decided to put three different songs up on my blog, one on each of Friday, Saturday, Sunday.  First one here:

Culture and creativity

I'm kind of a late-starter on the blogging thing (7 blog posts in total, and counting). But, partly inspired by a thread on here, I decided to write a few blog posts on Culture and Creativity, based on an Andy Crouch book I like.  The links with worship music are, so far, tangential rather than direct, but I hope some might see there is a link.  First two posts are here, I'm planning to add a couple more on the theme:…

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'WTR is back online and moving forward!'
"Hi Nathan Any further thoughts on this?  At the moment, I think people (certainly me) are tending to just look at the recent activity on the left of the front page and see what people are commenting on.  But typically that only flags up…"

Daniel Read replied to C. Foster Payne's discussion 'Is the Church Orchestra Dying?'
"OK.  First I should say that there is not even the smallest chance of building an orchestra in a church the size of ours!  We make do with what we have. But, I think the rule here is (as with most things) to look around, see what resources…"

Daniel Read replied to David Wettrich's discussion 'Starting a worship team from scratch'
"Lots of good advice already.  My feeling, though, is that if God is calling you to start a worship team, then when you look for members you will find them.  Much of the time I have found that the best way of figuring out what God wants you…"

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Full-time or Part-time worship leader?'
"Hi Nathan As you can probably tell from responses so far... in the UK, the general rule is that almost any job in the church is "voluntary" and that includes the leading of worship.  In our church there are only three paid positions,…"

Daniel Read replied to Julie Tofilon's discussion 'Getting Songs "out there"'

Daniel Read replied to Phil Williams's discussion 'Do the 'Sins' of the Songwriter Matter?'

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Practice / Method for handling CCLI reporting'

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Practice / Method for handling CCLI reporting'
"All I can say is how lucky you are over in the US, at least with respect to CCLI.  We in the UK are required to report every week, all year, every year.... it used to be that we just had to report whether we had used a given song at some point…"

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Frequency of Original Song Introductions to your Church'
"1) Probably between 5% and 10%....  I counted a little less than 20 original songs in a list of 280, but we don't regularly do all of the 280, or all of the 20.2) When they are ready!  On average maybe 1 per year.... but like Charles…"

Daniel Read replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'WTR is back online and moving forward!'

Greg Moore replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'

Daniel Read replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'

Daniel Read replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'

Nathan Lawrenson replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'

Wulf Forrester-Barker replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'

Daniel Read replied to Daniel Read's discussion 'Automatic song-counting for CCLI report'
