Charles Wolff replied to Lorraine Doswell's discussion 'Who wrote the song?'
"Agree, that CCLI site is pretty good, can be used without a license, and can be confusing if you're looking for a song with a frequently used title.  I found a youtube video a while back of a song called "Come Holy Spirit Fall On Me…"
Charles Wolff replied to angela dittmar's discussion 'On The Holy Mountain'
"All right, so lissen, I wrote a whole bunch of notes about this and then I started thinking, "well, what do I know?"  So here's what I wrote down, my reactions, but I may be way off base with this, I haven't been getting…"

Charles Wolff replied to Charles Wolff's discussion 'For the Lord Is Righteous' in the group Songwriter's Circle - Get Song Feedback
"Thank you, Kevin :-)  You're not committing to actually using it, but for me, that's what tells me if it works as a worship song or not, so I appreciate that feedback, and I'm glad to know the songwriting "group" is…"

Kevin Auralee replied to Charles Wolff's discussion 'For the Lord Is Righteous' in the group Songwriter's Circle - Get Song Feedback
"We might consider it. It's better than most. Easy to participate in. Easy to understand. Words are also clear. We like it. We pick the songs we sing.  :)"

For the Lord Is Righteous

Original written in 2008, recently re-recorded for a "psalmody" project I'm starting on.  Based loosely on (or maybe just "inspired by parts of" Psalm 11.Most useful feedback would be... assuming you get to choose the songs your worship band does, is this one you would consider doing?  And if not, why not?God's chosen ones shall see God's faceSee Him seated on a heavenly throneWatching from the holy temple Watching over His own.  For the Lord is righteous (3x) And the evil ones shall not…See More

Charles Wolff replied to Joshua Halls's discussion 'Down Your Love Came'
"Probably more of a slower, "soaking" song than we would use at our church, but that's just me. Reading the lyric through at first, the chorus felt rather disconnected to me, that feeling of a bunch of worship lyrics strung…"

Charles Wolff replied to Nathan Gifford's discussion 'Groups are back!'
"One observation: we now have both "forums" and "groups" and the content of the songwriting group is entirely separate from the content of the songwriting forum.  And "blogs" about songwriting are somewhere entirely…"

Blue Christmas

Posted on December 22, 2008 at 3:26pm 1 Comment

Last night, our church had our first-ever "Blue Christmas" service. Here's an article that explains the idea:

Although I'm not playing in the worship band right now, I am still on the worship committee at church, and back in October or November I brought up the idea, and when I found out that the pastor was up for doing the service, I signed on to do the music (guy & guitar style). Hey Charles, I hope all is well with you. Retired but not out I hope.

You are a wise & experienced Man of God. Your wealth of experience is essential for new worship leaders to glean from. Even tho the songs are different today the key purpose is still the same. I really appreciate reading your comments to songwriters, outlining your thoughts about songs.

I have a similar outlook.

Worship songs = Singing to God.

Praise songs = Singing about God.

Testimony = personal story about experience.

Inspirational songs = encouragement to the church.

Keep commenting & being effective. This network needs your voice.

Blessings. Rick
