Oh David! Nothing like a little pain to bring out something beautiful. Well done, my friend. I am so happy to hear the fruit that has come from this challenging time. It's a good thing that you want more, cause He's always got more . . ., and it is His joy to pour out His glory for the world to see. Loved beyond our limits,
Jennifer
Thanks, Jenn! You're such an encourager.
Here is my gut reaction to your song. While it's kinda pretty it's not pretty enough to stay so sleepy for so long, I liked it a lot more when you kicked it up a notch and really liked it when you got to hook, "we want more"
Have you ever heard the silly expression toss about in the music business "don't bore us, get to the chorus" well it holds true with worship songs as well.
Don't get me wrong, I like your song and you have a nice voice but if you want to keep it as is, I would suggest getting a different singer, someone whose vocals captivate with every note sung [Lara Marriot comes to mind, you can find her here on this site] and rerecord it.
Yes, it did turn out sleepy. That's how I felt about it the first time I listened to in on play back. I recorded it at 1:30am that night. And I was very sleepy. Maybe I should try recording during the day and see if that make any difference. Great idea with having someone like Lara Marriot record it. I agree, she has a very sweet voice.
David,
I can feel the passion and the intimacy in this. I have to agree with Bizzy, it's hard to hold my attention because it is so slow and mellow.

I think maybe if you had full instrumentation from the very beginning. Drums would give it a little more punch and some electric guitar would give it a little meat.

Also I'm not a fan of la-di-da's toward the end. IMHO it takes a song that has alot of passion for God and makes it cheezy.

That being said, I think it's a great song.

Ha! Thanks Russ! Yeah, I just told Bender that I recorded it at like 1:30am that night. I was very sleepy. I'm gonna try to record it mid day. And yes, I'd like to have more instruments but I'm limited. And thanks for you honesty about the La di da's! How bout na-na-na's????..... No... Okay, I'll just drop it. ;-)
Ya - i really like the words, but it really seemed like it dragged. I'd speed it up at the very least - i think id love it if it were like 15-20bpms faster.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you like the words.
David,
I was not troubled by the tempo one bit. In fact, I liked it just fine. I think that could be because I hear it as a song for soaking and contemplation, not Christian Pop Worship or whatever. I see it as anointed and purposeful, not as much entertainment. So I guess the question would be for you . . . Why did you write it, for what purpose? If I am to be honest, I was distracted by the la di da's, You know that I don't give much heed to marketing, perhaps I could care more about it. I think being honest about why you write a song, and staying true to the intention of it is most important. I would imagine that having some balance in form vs. function would be beneficial to all.
Jenn, you're such a purist! That's one of the things I love about you. Yes, I would describe this as a soaking song. A time of passion in deep worship with everyone singing in one voice at the top of their lungs. WE WANT MORE, GOD!!!! I'm trying to describe how sometimes being in the Lord's presence is like a sitting by a fire. When you get close at first it feels good but the longer you stay it starts to burn and that's when it starts to get uncomfortabe and want to move away to a place that is more comfortable to our bodies. But in worship in the presence of God what if we don't move when it gets too hot for our flesh? What if we stayed and let him burn in us until we are totally consumed? The song isn't really supposed to answer that question but more like challenge worshipers to sit and soak in the Lord until they are totally consumed by Him. The La di da's didn't turn out the way I wanted it to in the recording and I may record it again with some other voices or just drop it all together. It was more of an after thought and not so important to me if it's in there or not. Awesome! Thanks. Ya know, writing all of this out actually helped me understand my song better! Thanks! David
Great song! I think even the tempo could work fine although speeding it up just slightly may make a difference. As for the la-di-das, I agree that they should be removed. My suggestion is that you replace them with a short set of words like "We want more fire" or "Consuming fire". "Burn in us now" or "Burn in our hearts" might even work better. Thanks for sharing! I'll look for more of your songs on the forum! I can see myself possibly using this in a congregation in the future (if you wouldn't mind). I just thought to add one more suggestion: Try using all four sets of words above in this order "Burn in us now/ Burn in our hearts/ We want more fire/ Consuming fire".
