An updated version is posted in the comments. I kept the original up so we can track the "evolution" of the song.
Please review.
(Pardon the recording, but you work with what you have. The guitar is too loud at points. Hoping to rerecord at some point, but this should at least give you a good idea.

Wait (Psalm 27)
Words and Music by
Doug Lane
Fear and doubt surround me, consume me
My confidence is shaken
Help faithful eyes to seek You, see You
You’ve always been there for me
I have never been abandoned
By the God who gives me just what I need
I will wait on You
Wait on You
I will wait on You
Wait on You
Though others may forsake me, leave me
The Lord will be my shelter
All my days You’ve numbered, You know them
I am not a stranger to your gaze
I will never been abandoned
By the God who gives me just what I need
If the Lord is my light
Of what shall I be afraid?
And if the Lord is my rock
Then what shall I fear?
What shall I fear?

Okay, so one of my pet peeves is songs that switch back and forth between referring to God as "You" and "He" even though it seems like most of the hot new worship songs lately do this... anyway, one suggestion would be to do a little rewording to make it consistent... "God, You give me just what I need..." "Lord, You will be my shelter" and so on.
Lord, You are my light..."
Chorus, instead of emphasizing "I" by holding it out, try singing it so that "wait" is held out (or even "You" but I think "wait" is the word to emphasize).
I get the connection between the verses and the chorus, but you might play with the bridge a little to strengthen this connection - instead of just "what shall I fear?" something about how the singer trusts that "waiting on God" is the right answer - "I know you will appear" or something.
Music seems kinda "easy listening" in comparison to all the difficulties the singer is apparently going through... if the singer is being deserted by all his friends, I'd like to feel that a little more in the music, even though he has faith that God will take care of him in the long run.
Permalink Reply by Doug Lane on January 31, 2012 at 8:28pm I'll be uploading a revised version shortly that addresses many of the issues you raised (thanks to another reviewer on a different site). The Chorus and Bridge are the last and first lines (respectively) of Psalm 27, on which the song was based.
I decided to keep the perspective shift in the prechorus ("by the God who gives me just what I need") for now, but made those kinds of changes throughout the rest of the song.
Easy listening? Maybe. I was going for "pained, but hopeful"! :-)
In all seriousness, the voicing and feel preceeded the song by 3 years, and the chorus is all I had until a month ago.

like the song. We really can't go wrong when we delve into the Psalms can we. Great words that reach right from where we are to the throne of our God. Would love to hear a full arrangement of this song, full band etc... lots of potential. I think this song could easily work as easy listener or beefed up a bit. Good work
