Hey Guys,
This is my first post here in the songwriters forum.  Please feel free to critique anything about the song.  My biggest weakness is the recording and mixing, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This is a song that I wrote for our church about the new things that God is doing in our lives.

Doing Great Things
w&m by Russell Henderson
(c) 2010 Russell Henderson/IGNITE Worship Music

Verse
So many plans You have for me
Plans of a future and hope
You know the purpose for my life
So many dreams You've given me
Dreams that have yet to be seen
You've placed a passion in my life

Pre-Chorus
I'm not looking in my past
'Cause it only clouds my today
So I praise You now for what lies ahead
'Cause I know You are making a way

Chorus
You are opening doors for me
That no one can shut, no one can shut
You are taking me places that I've only dreamed
You are making a way for me
You're filling me up with more than enought
And You're doing great things
Greater than I've ever seen

Bridge
I am blessed and highly favored
I am blessed of the Lord
I am blessed and highly favored
I am blessed of the Lord
In my going out, in my coming in
I am blessed of the Lord
In my weakness and in my strength
I am blessed, I am blessed of the Lord

Good stuff man! Very complete lyrically and instrumentally. Don't worry about recording quality on this site. The majority of us are recording through the 1/8th inch line into our laptops!!! LOL! Thank for sharing bro! I also listened to a few other songs on sound click. Very uplifting songs!
Commentary often reveals as much or more about the commentator than the subject, and I think that is true in my comments here. I really like the song, and I was thinking that it's one I could imagine or congregation singing, but then it went on a bit long - we don't often sing songs this long at our church. That leads into all kinds of questions about training a church in worship, and how much should we work against some of the cultural norms that effect our worship... I wonder if I would have felt that way if there was a second verse instead of a repeated first verse - I don't know.

Anyway, I would like to pass this by the Praise Team and see what they think - is that OK? If we like it, is it listed by CCLI? Are chord charts available?
Hey Dennis,
I am in the process of putting it on ccli. For Chord Charts you can go to my website www.russellhenderson.com/music.

God Bless
I have found that songs already completed can be shortened when in use by a different church or artist to make way for specific praise and worship at their location. I have seen it and done it- sometimes because I didn't know the rest of the song and other times because it fit in better that way in the situation. As for what an original artist would think about that, I'm not sure, but that's my best suggestion. In this case, at least, you can ask the artist! ^__^
This reply is meant for Dennis. It appears that it showed up under the wrong reply.
I agree with one of the other commenters here on the length, but that's part of the songwriting process. Some of Psalm 139 may give more depth to the first verse talking about what he's planned for you. I know you are thankful to Him for what he's done for you. Would expressing your thankfulness for what he's done for you add more to the song? just a thought..
Thanks Robert, I'll definitely give that some thought.
Russell, I really like the song. It is right on point with where I am in life right now. Although my dream to be a worship leader and get some of God's music in me to the world is not realized in manifestation, I know that it lies at the foot of the cross back when He bled and died for all the world. As for the quality of the recording, don't worry. Be glad that you have the capability to do so with all the music in place. Anything beyond the words and melodies, I don't have the abilities at this time. Again, good song! Praise God for the gift!
Christopher, thank you for the wonderful comment.
This is nice, it's focused, clear, flows well. A couple minor lyrical nits:

I'm not looking in my past - maybe "at my past" ?

I am blessed of the Lord - maybe "by the Lord" ? or even "I have been blessed by the Lord"

Overall, though, nice job. This is a good example of a song that is personal to the author, but at the same time it totally works as a way to put positive words into the mouths of the congregation as they sing.
