The biggest challenge that I find in being a worship leader in a small church is lack of resources-primarily in terms of people. I find that when I am leading worship I am also doing a whole host of other things which need to happen yet detract from my primary responsibilities. I am the worship leader/sound tech/office clerk/stage vacuumer. Part of our issue is an overall lack of apt and faithful people who can contribute. This is problem transcends the entirety of our church. I am just one of two worship leaders. I don't head up the ministry so there is little I can do address the problem. Any creative suggestions?

Be jealous you all - I have a roadie! Heh. My husband (also my bass player) helps me a *ton* on Sunday mornings do all those "extra" things...and boy, aren't there a lot of them? I remember reading once this pastor was thinking, as he checked the bathroom for TP, "I wonder if Joel Osteen has to check if the church's bathrooms have enough TP?" Ha ha! I always think of that when I'm doing one of those little jobs. :)

I love the "reproduce yourself" idea. As a pianist and piano teacher I've been fairly good at doing that as far as training more pianists and even sound/overhead people, but I struggle with other areas.

You say you can not do much because your hands are tied? Leadership does not come with a title but rather with quality of character.

1. Talk to the person in charge and share your ideas, encourage them, share your concerns in a non-judgemental way. We cannot only influence those under us but those above us as well.

2. Training others takes patience and time. For me I find out their ability to commit and/or their level of commitment and work from there. If they can not commit to practices and we as a team have set that as something we value then they won't be playing but perhaps hey could do something else? Run projector, or do specials, or ????

3. Don't lower your standards or expectations, this is of course assuming they are reasonable. We train people and unfortunately many smaller churches in an effort to get more help have lowered the bar to the point that we can walk over it.
