I haven't heard it. I've tried a few low-cost pres, but finally broke down and bought a Phoenix Audio DRSQ-4; which is in the same Neve vein that the Pre-73 is aiming at. I'm sure there is plenty of discussion on this, but I am almost convinced that it is better to have 1 very good pre than 3 or 4 ok ones for the same money.

I'd love to have a high end preamp but at the moment that is just not happening. I have read some great reviews on the Golden Age unit though. Thanks!

That pre is nice, but its nothing to write home about. It does add a little bit of character to the sound, but I haven't had enough reason to buy it. I'd used other people's before. It is nice to use on a bunch of different things.

What mic do you use? That will determine what pre you might want to use.

I have an SM7b that I use with a Great River NE-1V pre. I also line in guitars and use an SM57 with it to mic amps. It is my favourite pre to use and works on alot of different applications. The 7b also works great on micing amps and acoustic guitars, but shines on vocals, especially aggressive vox.
