How do you record your songs? On a computer? What software / mics / set up do you use?

I have a question to ask those much more experienced than I. In the coming weeks I will be recording some of my songs and want to know a few things in regard to preparation. Obviously practice makes perfect, but I have been encouraged to take the time and listen for nuances in the songs where perhaps the acoustic needs to be less in order for other instruments to come in. Give me some feedback on what I can be doing to make the recording time the best that it can be, because I have come prepared with the best that I can be.
ProTools 002 on a PC, Mac in the past. I also use Reason 4 and various plugs (waves, izotope, bombfactory, etc). For vocals I love the Studio Projects C1, I've also got a pair of AKG C414s, and Rode NT1-As. A Shure SM81, PPA Ribbon, SP B1, Audio Technica Boundary mic, ATM 250, SM 57s, Beta 58s (live), Beta 87s (live). I also have an MBox mini that I record on when traveling or out of the studio. I just bring my iLok for plug-ins and a hard-drive.
I have tried using the PC to do some recording but I never got it working right. Then I got an iMac. Using Garage Band I have put together a couple of songs, which are on my home page here at Worship the Rock. I'm thinking of stepping up to Logic 8, but am not sure if it is that much of an improvement over GB. Oh, I also got myself an 500 gig HD to store all the song files I plan to record.
I have a P.C. Running Vista home O.S. Sonar 8.3 with a wheen of plugins. Tascam Fire one Audio/midi/control surface. M-audio Prokeys 88, Ibanez Electric Guitar, Korg M1 synth. Behringer V-amp 2 Guitar fx, Behringer, B2 Vocal/inst mic, Behringer, C2 capsule mics,(matched pair), for instruments as well. Oh and a Pair of M-audio Bx 5 Monitors. My acoustic is a Freshman. All crammed into the dinning room, My wife really really loves me, :-). Hope this is what you ment phil.
