What's your all-time favorite hymn?

I've got a couple which I really love, but I gotta say that "Be Thou My Vision" is probably right there at the top. I've used it quite a number of times during worship, and it works every time! I wouldn't change it. To me, It's great as it is.

What about the rest of you?

It's hard to think of one song as my all time favorite hymn, one that comes to my mind at this moment is "He Abides"

He Abides

I'm rejoicing night and day
As I walk the narrow way,
For the hand of God in all my life I see.
And the reason of my bliss,
Yes, the secret all is this:
That the Comforter abides with me.

Refrain

He abides, He abides.
Hallelujah, He abides with me!
I'm rejoicing night and day
As I walk the narrow way,
For the Comforter abides with me.

Once my heart was full of sin,
Once I had no peace within,
Till I heard how Jesus died upon the tree.
Then I fell down at His feet,
And there came a peace so sweet.
Now the Comforter abides with me.

Refrain

He is with me everywhere,
And He knows my ev'ry care;
I'm as happy as a bird and just as free.
For the Spirit has control;
Jesus satisfies my soul,
Since the Comforter abides with me.

Refrain

There's no thirsting for the things
Of the world-they've taken wings.
Long ago I gave them up, and instantly
All my night was turned to day,
All my burdens rolled away.
Now the Comforter abides with me.

Refrain
I love "It is well with my soul", "the Lord's my Shepherd" ....Especially the first one....the words of the hymn are so meaningful and wen I sing it with my eyes closed I am mmoved to tears....It is a hymn of faith and trust in GOd
Here's one of my favorites. I tried a lot of things the world had to offer but none of those fulfilled me. I didn't need a thing, I needed Jesus!

SATISFIED

All my life long I had panted
For a drink from some clear spring,
That I hoped would quench the burning
Of the thirst I felt within.

Chorus:
Hallelujah! I have found Him
Whom my soul so long has craved!
Jesus satisfies my longings,
Through His blood I now am saved.

Feeding on the husks around me,
Till my strength was almost gone,
Longed my soul for something better,
Only still to hunger on.

Poor I was, and sought for riches,
Something that would satisfy,
But the dust I gathered round me
Only mocked my soul's sad cry.

Well of water, ever springing,
Bread of life so rich and free,
Untold wealth that never faileth,
My Redeemer is to me.

We need to raise this group from the dead....

My favorite hymn is easily "How Great Thou Art"... the lyrics suck me in every time. And by hymn standards, it's pretty modern - 1941'ish as I remember. It Is Well is a short lister, as is "The Love of God" - which probably actually a Gospel Song but I'm gonna add it anyway. Um- Come Ye Sinners is awesome - I use the Robbie Seay music but it doesn't come out too much like his version. A bit like how Todd Agnew does it - a little bit. One more: I use a Mark Condon arrangement of "All Haill the Power of Jesus Name" that's very playable, moves well and is popular with my church.
Wow that's a tough question...my favorite is "The Solid Rock" followed closely by "It Is Well".
Great songs. I notice in your pic your a guitar player. For me, being a guitarist versus a pianist biases me a lot as to what hymns we like and use. I was wondering is this is true for you also? there are some songs I love, but have yo lean almost entriely on my piano player to pull it off. It's especially true during Christmas and some of the most popular Easter stuff (for me).
Lee...I am sorry for the late response. I completely missed your comment. Although we use elec. keyboards with our praise band, we are predominately guitar driven. We have found that no hymns are off limits. I end up doing alot of arrangement work especially with some of the more challenging hymns like "Great Is Thy Faithfulness". Easter can be a challenge. Finding or arranging good singable and playable arrangements of "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" or "Christ Arose" can really be challenging. I have noticed that Don Chapman is releasing several arrangements of hymns for contemporary worship that work well for guitar. The arrangements maintains the integrity of the original melody lines while enhancing the accompaniment.

Here's his arrangement of "Christ Arose" that he has done.

My hope is built on nothing less,
than Jesus blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus name.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

This is one of my favorites as well.
It'd be hard to pick an all-time favorite, but these days I'm really liking "I Sing the Mighty Power of God" by Isaac Watts -- sort of the "God Of Wonders" of the 18th century...
He Leadeth Me has become one of my all time favorites. It has a special meaning to me because of some struggles that I had to go through. That's truly the power behind these songs. How many saints throughout the years have found solace and sustenance from these hymns. There's nothing like a congregation in full voice offering up a hymn.

He Leadeth Me
The Solid Rock
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
For a start,
"Holy, Holy, Holy" (Heber et al.)
"It Is Well with my Soul"
"How Great Thou Art"
"Softly and Tenderly"
"Because He Lives"
"Christ the Lord Is Ris'n Today"
"When I Survey"
"Joyful, Joyful"
Malotte's Lord's Prayer
The Sevenfold Amen
Joy Unspeakable
Come, Everyone who is Thirsty
Beneath the Cross of Jesus

There are so many great hymns it is hard to narrow it down.  I have lead the music in various churches for about 24 years and the first 20 or so it was always hymn style singing.  So, I have used a lot of beautiful hymns over the years.

Several that have already been mentioned are among my favorites--Be Thou My Vision, How Great Thou Art, etc.

Here are some of my very favorites that have not been mentioned yet:

"Others" Click the the title to see the lyrics and hear a midi version... they take it too fast... by the way

"Living for Jesus"  I found an interesting version on YouTube for this one.

"Now I Belong to Jesus" Another video with 3 men singing it A Capella... Not bad harmony.

"He Lifted Me" Another video... she does a decent job with this but a little fast I think. No doubt she's nervous.

There are many others but these are some of my favorites.
