Free Style music is allowing the spirit of God to lead worship making the music your own not trying to copy other PPL music. Just allowing the music to Flow for Spirit. Play other groups music but not trying to sound like them just being yourself.

Comment by Marsha Conley on January 12, 2013 at 6:29pm I like to put on a CD or mp3 and just practice trying out different counter-melodies along with it. The more I do that, the more I feel comfortable playing in the Spirit on Sunday. I do this with my flute and my mandolin. I would someday love to play along with David and the angels in heaven. Isn't that going to be incredible? Sometimes I try to imagine that they are playing and singing along with us when we are worshiping here on earth. I'm just practicing for my heavenly gig.

Comment by Marsha Conley on January 11, 2013 at 5:11pm One of the instruments I play is the flute. I have found that it is an excellent instrument along with the guitar or piano to launch into free-style worship. So if you have a flautist in your group, let him/her loose when the Spirit moves.
Amen, that is the key, be bold and use the gifts God has givin you!!!!!!
Comment by Greg Moore on July 10, 2012 at 5:31am Dave, your describe a scene similar to what I have experienced many times, with our senior pastor or sometimes the worship leader stepping back when they sensed a message, prophecy or prayer time coming.
Earlier in our lives my wife was "just about sure" that she had the words to begin the interpretation for a tongue during a quiet worship time. She hesitated, and several seconds later someone else spoke, "just about the same thought" she was going to express. In fact, the woman who spoke came to my wife after the service and said, "Honey, you had that interpretation. If you have it, just speak out; the Lord will give you the rest." In churches today, sometimes they call that "reading someone's mail" - not an invasion of privacy, but a way of encouraging a person to be bold in the vocal gifts.
Greg, you asked about parameters and how it affects the church. Being the Senior Pastor the only parameters that I have are what God gives me during worship, basically go as God leads, that may mean play more choruses or it may mean just play the music and wait for my prophetically gifted wife and co-singer to prophetically sing. God will show me she has something so I step back from my mic and that is her sign to knowthat she is frre to give what God has given her, or sometimes it may be a tounge or prophecy from someone in the body, they all know the sign of me stepping back from the mic.
How it affects the church, it makes them feel like they are more involved in the whole process of worship, not just an audience. It helps people feel that they are a part of the service not just going to see a show.
Wow, I have so enjoyed reading the comments..........again, I had forgotten about this group, thank you David and Greg for your recent comments, they are truly inspiring. What's great too though is that this is a place where you are able talk much more freely and openly about 'Spirit led' worship.
God Bless. Lorraine
The Soakers House, Thanks for the welcome!!
Comment by Greg Moore on June 18, 2012 at 5:15am I'm a fairly new (two years) leader in a conservative church trying to be more "contemporary." To some this means copying new trends, to others being freer in our expression of worship. At first, the drummer and bassist were hesitant about my asking them to "just play what's inside you", or "let loose here" or "be an orchestra" or other injunctions to get outside the boom-chick Box and be themselves. Now, as they are getting to truly trust me, I can give them a few guidelines, but let them take the Initiative of Freedom, the lurching is changing into truly flowing together in the Spirit.
