Is Worship more effective with music?  I've seen a congregation move to the music, but not to the worship.  Can a person get more out of worship without music?  As we say a "Heart of Worship"  It doesn't matter with or without music it's what comes from the heart out that counts,

This is why we get involved in High School youth group - so that we don't have to mow our lawn!
:) I sure that is only one of the reasons............ good way to get involved in the community for sure too.
I knew it! I was right! I could have sworn that me new lawnmower was cranking out the melody to "How Great Thou Art", but now I'm sure of it!
Worshiping Jackyl style!
"What you don't play" - That's what the afterbeat and the syncopation are about - the listener gets to, or has to, supply the kick. That's what makes the song B-I-N-G-O so cool!
Psalm 150 (on the surface) appears mostly to refer to praising the Lord through music. I love this psalm by the way!
Can this idea be dissected down further?
The psalm talks more on praise but is this the same as worship? Or is there a difference between praise and worship?
The psalm also seems to speak to the corporate act of praising God. Do we differentiate how we praise or worship God corporately vs individually?
I tend to see praise and worship as tactical vs.strategic. The two are often used interchangeably, but I tend to see praise as a specific act of worship, often oriented around musical lyrics that ascribe praise and honor to God. Worship seems to include anything that brings honor to God. So when you praise, you are worshiping. But when you are worshiping, you may not be praising.

That's a very rough way to get it started, but maybe someone can run with that...

So if what I said is true, then many things and persons end up honoring God without ever knowing Him...yes?
The psalm talks more on praise but is this the same as worship? Yes. By definition anything that is done for God's glory is in fact, worship. God wants us to praise His name - therefore praise is worship. God wants us to obey our parents so cleaning our room can also be worship.

Or is there a difference between praise and worship? Therefore, by definition anything that is not done for God's glory, is not really worship. If I'm praising God for my own gain (something that happens a lot in our churches as most of the people seem to rate good / bad worship by whether or not they were "touched" or "moved" by the offering to God) then I am not worshiping God.

The psalm also seems to speak to the corporate act of praising God. Do we differentiate how we praise or worship God corporately vs individually? The two can be different, but they can also be the same. I might practice in my piano room by myself and stop, take notes, work out parts, etc, this is (can be) worship - but this isn't something you are going to see in our corporate worship offering as there, I need to present my best material.
As people have been saying, it isn't what you DO that is worship but why you do it. It's all in the attitude/heart/etc. Remember that worship is our response to God. It might be a response to scripture, or earthly beauty or whatever but you can't worship if you don't know God. As we get to know God, we see more and more of His character and we worship that character. How we worship can and is extremely varied.

Another point is the 'emotional' side of worship. Worship is emotional - we are emotional. Music is emotional and so there is an automatic connection between these factors. The pitfall is allowing the music or drama or whatever touch our emotions instead of directing us to God and BE emotional about our love for Him.
I want to thank everyone for keeping up with this subject. I've read all the comments and I've got to say thank you God for the privilege of being created to worship you. God is most definitely worthy of all the praise. I know that worship pleases God when is offered to him with a true and sincere heart. Music gives worship a nice melody, but it's that sweet sound that only comes from the heart that God accepts. May God bless you all =)
You are very welcome Marisol. God Bless you too. Lorraine
