Worship The Rock - Worship Leader Forum & Social Network

Worship Leaders Network | Worship Leader Forum | Worship Leader Resources & Jobs

I'm going to start creating articles or blog posts and thought it would be fun to have a 'Top 10' series.

So if you're up for it, please help me out with this one by posting some worship leading 'myths' - and yes they can be funny as well as true :-)

I'll pick the best 10 and put them into an article, or blog post so please only share them if you're willing for them to reused and reprinted.

This should be fun!

Phil

Update (09/09/09): I've just published the '101 Worship Leader myths' on the new Worship The Rock blog - enjoy!

I totally agree with your last statement in bold - and I am so sorry that it is true :-( God help those people when they get to heaven and don't hear their preferred style of music - that is if they get to heaven....ouch....
or,

You're not truly worshipping if you don't stand still, wear a tight suit, sing from a hymn book at an octave too high to be comfortable.
So true
Worship leaders have an extensive background of religion and music training.
We know better Pete : )
If the Words on a screen, more people will sing!

Some older church members tend to object to words up on a screen, because they are caught up in "The Bouncing Ball thing". The Bouncing Ball went out with "Hardrock, Coco, and Joe", but for some reason, it can infuriate them.
Myth: The worship leaders can have a week without seeking God and then can lead others into His presence on Sunday.
Good one Kevin...Good one!
All of us need to play all of the time or the worship stops!

(I have been in fantastic times of worship where the leader played one down stroke - once - and that was all it needed.)

(Taylors- LOL. What is it about taylor owners? Our bass player has been known to say to me in rehearsals - 'you're supposed to be worshipping God - not your guitar'. Yes - I'm afraid it is a taylor. Just occasionally - that wow chord.....! I know someone with a Lowden - he used to spend a moment or two SNIFFING it when he got it out of the case - that is worse surely!)
Coppo
Everyone in the congregation listens to the local Christian radio station, so we have to play the songs that are popular on that station right now.
Myth: It takes perfect people performing perfectly to lead others into Father's presence.

Experience: God moves greatest when I am weakest and not in my best form. He uses me, mistakes and all, and does great things in the midst. Humble before Him, Christ focused, open of heart...
Just to say....
