Halloween is one of those holidays that I just don't get into.  Maybe.  Perhaps this new Steampunk genre will change my mind because I think the look is cool.

My only real reason for not getting into halloween is because I just have no interest.  Now, I have gone to Halloween parties, we buy candy for the couple of children that will come by our house, I even support church events that do a halloween thing (I usually dress like a Cory Zipperle though.)

I know that there are a lot of Christians who think that Christians ought to just stay away from the holiday because of its pagan roots.  While I don't have a real solid theology on whether or not we should be celebrating the holiday, I do find the argument ironic as Christmas and Easter both have many practices that are deeply rooted in pagan beliefs that even the most legalistic Christians seem to engage in.

What is your opinion on the holiday?  How do you handle some of the questions that your children come up with?

If you dress up - you gotta post pics.  Smiley

amen amen.....and a big HALLELUJAH!!!

The Gummi Bear originates from Germany where it is popular under the name About this sound Gummibär (help·info) (rubber bear) or About this sound Gummibärchen (help·info) (little rubber bear). Hans Riegel, a candy maker from Bonn, started the Haribo company in 1920. In 1922, he invented the Dancing Bear,[1] a fruit gum made in the shape of a bear.[2] The success of the Dancing Bear's successor would later become Haribo's world-famous Gold-Bear product in 1967.
besides sugar, mine tailings. Oops, Michael Letus has the actual story below.
"CIRCUS PEANUTS!!!!"

I can't say that I have eaten those.

I can't say that I have seen them either.
They're large sugary--extra sugar added--marshmallow--more extra sugar added treats in the shape of a peanut---with more extra sugar added.
That's such a hoot. I take peanut butter cups apart and only eat the fill because I'm allergic to the chocolate. Where can you buy that filling? Can you actually make it?
maybe some day God will chose to heal your affliction.....chocolate is so delicious.
Yea, and coffee too. Can't do the caffeine for the migraines. Oh well, I can still peanuts and Indian food.
I don't know. They used to sell it in jars though. Seems like I have seen that recently in Wal Mart.
Color by color for me - nibble each one off like a squirrel.
As I expected, our "children's sermon" focused on Halloween, what are you going as, what kinds of things scare you, with God you don't have to be afraid of anything. The rest of the service, at least the traditional one that I was at, didn't make any reference to the holiday at all, not even any "have no fear" songs.
Our service focused on contrasting the Old Covenant with the New and ended with a reference to Luther's reformation. Now I'm going to turn my porch light off cause I don't have any candy to give out . . . what a scrooge!
bah hum bum
I went through about $55 worth of candy. There's very little left and at 8:30 there are still a few stragglers roaming the streets. It was a huge turnout. The day wasn't mentioned at all in the service, which was one of the best services we've had in a few years.
