“People that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits”…..Daniel 11:32
This is such a profound scripture that I believe reveals a lot about my personal relationship with God and maybe it will shed a lot of light on your relationship with him as well, as you and I reflect on this passage deep within our hearts and sprits. The Holy Sprit has been challenging me with this scripture for sometimes now…..lets look at the first phrase of this passage “People that do know their God….”The question you need to ask yourself, as I have done many times is ‘Do you really know God?’ because a lot depends on how you answer that question, because how you answer that question will reflect the quality of your Christian walk with God. The word “Know” in that passage is translated from the Greek word “Yada” which means-to perceive, to know, to discern, to be familiar with, to understand, and to know one sexually by having intercourse. When I heard and saw these words only one word comes to mind “INTIMACY”.

I believe Gods greatest passion is to get man to understand and know his heart, thoughts and ways; it is the burning desire of his heart, to unveil his glory to the sons of men, but the sad thing is so many of us fall short of recognizing that this is the eternal zeal of Gods heart for you and I that we may “Know Him”. Their is a big difference between knowing God and having knowledge about God, not that knowledge of God is not a good thing, but your knowledge of God should be the instrument that leads you to seek an intimate relationship with God. Your knowledge of God should not be and end in itself as Jesus said to the Pharisees ‘you diligently study the scriptures because you think that by them you posses eternal life. These are the scriptures that testify about me yet you refuse to come to me have life’ John 5:39-40.So many of us refuse to come to God ourselves to get to know him intimately, we depend so much on others for that whether it is your pastor, praise and worship leader or the next conference or seminar that has an anointed speaker who you think is going to draw you closer to God etc…we have become a generation that seeks more after the knowledge of God than a generation that seeks to know God for ourselves, the problem is the knowledge of God does not satisfy our hearts it is knowing him that does.

To many of us God is like a celebrity like Brad Pitt and we are his fans, we only know God from a distance, like Brad Pitt and by the way I am not a fan of his, we know about the latest movies he is in, we know about what clothes he likes to wear, where he likes to shop how much he is worth who is he dating, what the color of his house looks like etc…but in reality we don’t know Brad Pitt most of us have never even met him, we are just a fan who is fascinated by his good looks and talent and so is many of us in our relationship with God. Not because you have intimate knowledge about someone that means you know them intimately .This is the dangerous dilemma that many Christians are fallen into and I fear that on judgment day many of us will hear those frightening words from our Lord and Savior ‘I never knew you, depart from Me,’ Matthew 7:23. On that day the lines will be drawn between those who seek only knowledge of God and those who seek to know God intimately.

No wonder God got tired of his roller coaster relationship with the children of Israel and decided to establish a new covenant that would not motivate man to seek knowledge about him but motivate man seek to know him “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD.”Jeremiah 31:31-34, it is interesting that the same word ‘Know’ in this passage is from the same Greek word ‘Yada’ as mention above. God really wants you to know him intimately and what an overwhelming idea and thought that is just thinking about it!!! But it is true God is calling you to higher and deeper call; to seek to know him intimately to walk with him so close like Enoch did that God will be tempted to take you away from this earth to be with him in eternity but the real challenge is will you pay the cost of intimacy to know him intimately or will you just settle for the quick fixes of just seeking knowledge about him the choice is always yours…………….
