Sound tech vs worship leader - Should worship leaders have a say?

My sound tech is very offended that I would speak into how the sound is mixed.

Do you think I'm wrong to do this?

I think it is about working together with the tech's and the band to bring about a good mix.

What do you think?

Very well put ,when I mean part of I mean like on the same team not detached seen all those tuuds too :) I have done sound & play drums ,the first thing does the sound guy have an ear ,you know what I mean, you might not know this drummers keep time on the hi hat not kick, when I go into most churchs all I hear is a boomy kick drum & a snare drum that sounds like a flat tire ,no cymbals there is no glass around my drums & no electronic drums ,real drummers will not give them a thot, just smile & say no ,they are very good in studios, too prove my point goto youtube.com watch listen to the Doobie bros.in HQ song JESUS IS JUST ALL RIGHT these guys are kats ,well I went on a long rabbit trail yes I agree with you. now go listen to those kats 2 drummers 1 percussionist ,this will give church musicians that have a tuud a lesson in musicianship.see ya ~LAR
No, I mean, can you use some punctuation? I think you have some good points, but the stream of consciousness style is hard to follow. Not sure what you're trying to say exactly each time.
ok you are right stevo you can get a good sound with less ,that also depends on the size of the rm heres the deal I have played in Blues bands ,three monitors two up front one for drummer ,we use Quitar amps & sm 58's or better ,one little mixer on the platform no sound man .if we got one he better know his craft or the side walk will be his home ,hows that.I am 63 don't have a lot of patience with church musicians & sound people ,Leonard Jones from morningstar when he got saved would not play on church worship teams because the music was , so bad he is a world class musicsian .its getting real good now that was 20 yrs ago ,as far as a sound system ,stay in your element learn you equipment get all you can get out of it ,the bigger as you know you have to stay on top of it ,the deal is sound reinforcement that means to me is this reproduce the exact tones & nuances that instrument makes & mix everything good I do know the more instruments you have some will not get heard ,I trust good sound techs & their judgement .we all need to work together
Ok, He's Alive is a cool video, I love the melody, but there's nothing in that video that teaches me anything other than the fact that Suzy has a propensity to act kind of weird on stage and do all kinds of calisthenics while she sings. Further, the sound gets to be quite a mess when they're all playing at once, it lacks articulation.
pretty good answer myfriend i don't do electronic drums cymbals suck to most church sound guys drum,s are an after thot because they are not musicians but you can train them ,my experiance is this drummers must learn to play drums ,there is a church I used to go to the kid playing the drums ,broke a z-k series cymbal I would have changed out drummers ,sent him to drum teacher ,yes there is an attack level rule of thumb (mine) maybe not yours where that keyboard is in the house the left stick should be at the same volume, drummer put his attack level in the middle, glass around the drums lack of musicianship ,soundman lacks knowledge ,you can do anything you want ,but remember if you want a loose lack luster snoozzy fm radio sound go for it ,i have played in clubs where crummy bands that sound bad land on the sidewalk,in churchs you have volunteers who love Jesus but need to work on their muscianship ,you are exactly right avion system hi dollar stuff I use in ears in a not avion system I don't need to hear my drums that much ,you can mike them I have for me & mix the drums in a small mixer & the signal coming in so i know where to keep my attack centerned, its all about attack when you play in a club you are not spread out all over the place we use amps 3 monitors ,one of them for the drummer 2 house speakers,& I am not talking 100 db off the drums quitar players grow horns & horn you off the tubs :) & not 100 amp amps how about 40 .I tell young people this ,there is a concept called band ,bible, Don Potter has this rev.band is a circle soo put the musicians in the center of the room facing each other the people around them ,we must remove all entertainment from our mist the people don't have to look at you ,your back is just fine we are looking to Jesus ,the one that we love ,wepedia.com Don Potter was one of the greatests producers in Nashville & musicians ,he played with Chuck Mangione ,Elton John, sting,Eta James reba produced all of the Judds hits ,goto his web site potterhaus.com some teaching that we all need to hear :)
Dude - you need to be a little more realistic. Electronic drums work pretty well in the right context as does a glass booth. So far, you're not giving a lot of advice on how to make the relationship between sound crew and band work that I can tell.
Re: Electronic Drums, Omar Hakim has always been a huge supporter of Roland V-drums. He helped basically pioneer them. Played with many artist, such as Madonna, Sting and David Bowie. I'm not about to say I'm better than Omar Hakim or he doesn't know what he's talking about.

In all fairness, he still plays Pearl acoustic kits for some gigs, but you get the idea. Electronic drums are used by professional and can sound killer. Time & place.

Loooove Omar Hakim on "Ride Across the River" on "Brothers in Arms". He's amazing.
ok my friend the reason that Kat playes those drums is this, cash ,i have played in clubs for yrs no electronic drums ,you are right Omar is being paid by roland to go all over the place to market their stuff .It is called endorsment he is a killer drummer :)those drums work real good in studios ,& they can be mixed in with real drums , have found they will give you a real false sense of tecnique,go to drummer world see how many of them play electronic.in all fairness they sound pretty ,this is the truth if you play them for a long time you will lose your chops for real drums ,that is why most drummers won't play them. I have played both,
ok maybe not so realistic stevo got you thinking ,please goto Don Potters web site ,he might have some things you can present to worship leaders ,see him on youtube song I BELIEVE take a look at that stage set up,stevo i don't do glass because ,there is an art to playing drums ,this is it THE ART OF LAYING BACK play the groove ,don't draw attention to your self .in all fairness there is one if all the people on stage are using avion ,direct boxes ect. the real drums will be the only thing thatt is making noise so glass will be fine,I am set in my ways old Blues player no glass we listen to & play off each other do you understand that ,you must that is your art ,those musicians must hear each other & that is probably their biggest complaint ,you don't agree with this i think ,to me the sound crew & the band are one ,that is unity ,the numeral one .,( concept ) my advice that you said i am weak on is this the worship leader & the sound techs minds must be one, confused well maybe, think about it anyway ,submit to each other & 99 % of all your headaches will be low ,see you there in heaven
you all have made good points ,do this goto youube.com watch the Doobie bros. song JESUS IS JUST ALL RIGHT ,like no glass real musicians don't do glass they just play great music or goto youtube.com Kelanie Glockler if you all don't know who she is you about 20 yrs behind ,NO ONE LIKE JEHOVAH watch this band please don't get affended by what i said no glass, big platform pro musicians NO ENTERTAINMENT JUST WORSHIP,the bottem line if you have a show thing the people will not worship do they raise ther hands or clap when the song stops, you all were mostly right about sound stuff ,if you don't know the dif between worship & entertainment ,you all need to sit for a while WOW now that was a rabbit trail ,ok sound techs go to youtube watch/listen to those vid
You are not wrong-you should be working as a team.
