My pastor is preaching about Heaven on a Sunday in June, so I'd like all of your song ideas about that subject. They can be solo songs, congregational... it doesn't matter. Throw them all here.
I pretty much know all of the old hymns about heaven, but I need my memory refreshed on newer ones...
Thanks.

A good acoustic guitar solo piece would be "Sojourner's Song" by Buddy Greene
If you're into southern gospel, the Gaither Vocal Band has a great a capella version of "Heaven's Joy Awaits"
As far as congregational music, nothing immediately comes to mind; but a lot of older hymns mention heaven or the end times in the final verse (such as "The Church's One Foundation" and "It Is Well With My Soul")

A lot depends on what your pastor is going to say about heaven. Unfortunately, most songs and hymns just talk about it as "that place we go to when we die", or "the place we will spend eternity". It's quite difficult to find good songs on the subject.
Well he's preached through Revelation, and this I believe is the next to the last chapter.... off the top of my head.
Well, with any luck it will be about a new heaven and a new Earth, with the "holy city" coming down from heaven to Earth, and the divide between heaven and Earth being taken away so that God will be with us, etc. Unfortunately, not too many songs capture this, so you're kind of left with trying to pick songs that don't get it entirely wrong!
We do this one a lot:

There's also these two, though I'm afraid both mine:

I know not specifically about heaven, but about being in the Lord's presence, so how about:
'Facedown' and 'Better is One Day in Your Courts' both by Matt Redman
'All Heaven Declares'. Well known congregational song in the Uk and loads of different versions on YouTube.

I'll put an "Amen" to some already posted - Facedown, Revelations Song, Holy,Holy,Holy (deShazo's, or the Hymn, or Jimmy Owens, or perhaps another)
Permalink Reply by Greg Moore on May 24, 2012 at 5:32am Learning where Pastor is going with his message could be very helpful. The last few chapters in Revelation speak of the holy city coming down from heaven (the scene being set with "I saw a new heaven and a new earth.")
Jesus' teaching on the kingdom of heaven usually describes it in earthly terms; but a good song on the kingdom of heaven may make a good link from our present life to the cosmic scene in Rev. 20 & 21.
The second half of the Love Chapter (1 Cor. 13) speaks eloquently of heaven, and what shall be, and what shall no longer be. I've attached my own song (a setting of the entire chapter, the first half written about twenty years ago, the second just recently, completing the song - I finally got old enough to "get it.") If you wanted to use it, I've got it all in print.
