Pulling yourself in to a state of worship, even when you dont feel like it.

Its hard to pull yourself into a state of worship when you've had a really bad week.  Any suggestions as to how we can overcome that?

You just get up there and lead. I have had weekends where the entire weekend (Friday/Saturday/ sometimes even Sunday morning before church) is nothing but heartache and headache- you can't let it phase you.

We all know that God is unchanging. His goodness knows no end. His love has no end to it- Even though my week was awful- why should I withhold my love for God? He didn't do anything to deserve that.

So I just keep that in mind.

The Way of the Cross

34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.

I agree with those who have posted about 'feeling' closer to God when they are broken. If things are going great, I'm more likely to think that it's me who is doing a good job of sorting my life out, instead of praising God continually for the constant blessings I take for granted.

To truly worship my God, I need to deny myself ~ He is truly worthy of my praise whatever I am going through. His ways are Higher then mine, as are His thoughts. When times are tough, I try to focus on the fact that God has eternity mapped out. He can see forever, whereas we are limited to seeing the here and now. He knows what is best for us x

What do you mean by "deny myself" in this instance?
Probably means to not get that one extra burrito at Taco Bell...
More likely something harder, like actually listening to other people's ideas about worship, or toning down the volume when you just feel those music juices coursing through your veins and you feel this Holy Spirit stuff about self-control must be an outdated translation:)

By 'deny myself' I mean to rise above whatever I am feeling. I have had a tough start to the year and I have had to force myself to get up, when most mornings I wanted to wallow in pity and stay in bed. My interpretation of that passage is that feelings are from my human self - I can worship in the spirit even though my flesh is weak. Not saying that's by any means the correct interpretation, but it would be a boring old world if we all thought the same.

Thanks! I was only interested in seeing how you applied it. No intent to discuss ad nausea.

I have been doing this for weeks.  I avoid negative people at all costs, ignore the stress as best as I can and focus on Jesus and his Holy Spirit.  It is my worship time and I guard it.
I've avoided negative people way too much.  It does feel relaxing; but Gadarenes need a friend.  Thanks for reminding me that I need to interact with these people that I fear will drain me.
I guess negative people more specifically means negative discussions about worship or the team dynamic. These are reserved for tuesday practice and not sunday morning worship...
