I've been thinking on this subject quite a bit and I wanted to find out what others are thinking. Are we planning out our worship services to the Point that we are not allowing Christ (by his Spirit) time and space to really commune with his Church? How often do we deviate from our planned list of songs to flow into a new song or to allow a prophetic word to come forth? Please understand I'm not talking about not preparing, I'm just asking what are we preparing for?
Do we prepare and rehearse just for a good time singing praise and worship songs? Or are we preparing for a move of the Spirit of God in our midst. Do we really allow the Holy Spirit to control our services?

I do believe in preparing as much as possible... but I honestly do not plan out the songs for our services... I used to in the past and with the leading of the Spirit we were always changing around ! I believe in order in the church, don't get me wrong... but sometimes we can have so much order and programs that we totally miss out of what God truely wants! I am so thankful for what God has given me, to be able to feel after the spirit in ways I thought I never would! We practice songs we "think" are the right ones with prayer etc..... but we make it known that most of the time these are changed... Our praise team knows how to flow with the spirit as well and we never run into problems...I think a church can get way to much caught up in the planning stage! I have visited churches where they are so planned and stick right to that... and there is nothing spirit wise flowing... Thats our whole purpose for being up there!!!
And you know the Spirit is telling which songs to play...how?
I agree 100% that the spirit should be leading you in your planning time.. I didn't mean anything by my comment.. I was just saying mainly what I do myself..... Example... if you have planned 3 fast songs in a roll and there are people becoming broken and crying out.. I believe yiou shouldn't sing that next fast song... slow it down alittle... If you are filled with His spirit... you will DEFINATLY know if it's His spirit leading you in that way to change!!! It's not a questioning factor at all!
Different things work for different people and churches!!! What works for our church, maybe not work for the church down the road.... that is why God created all kinds of differernt people!! :)
Right on Kim, I with you. I know what you are saying.......

God Bless. Lorraine
Although this is the umpteenth time we have talked about this subject, I have been thinking about it a lot. I have come to the conclusion that the Holy Spirit CAN, WILL, and DOES greatly use and accept our praise offerings regardless of how we prepare for praise/worship. It is really about our heart attitude. None of us do it exactly the same, but I bet He uses all of us! If one group prepares the music a certain way, not to be changed in anyway during the service, can the Spirit not use that to touch people's hearts? Are people's hearts not crying out to God because it has been planned? It goes the other way as well!! I usually fall somewhere in between in preparing. I have actually been guilty of judging both "extremes." I (we) should probably be more accepting of our differences and leave the judging up to the Judge. Anyhoo, I gotta go... (probably talk more later)
Alot of sense talked here Benjamin. Thank you for looking at it it from all angles, but allowing the Judge to do the judging........
A big thank you. Don't necessarily agree with the one extreme, but thanks for your comments on the other.
Thought of you, Stevo! I don't really "agree" with either "extreme," but I'm starting to wonder, "Who am I?" You know?? We all have the Spirit within us, and He uses us as HE sees fit... He even uses our flaws for God's glory!!! Isn't that amazing? I love that.
Yes, I am just coming out of the desert after a two year struggle with myself. It was hard at times being obedient to the worship, as I often felt awful inside. I know there are those who will argue that you should be in the right frame of mind to do worship...........but wow, has God worked through my flaws and strengthened me in ways I would not have thought possible. Praise Him in the Highest.
Yes, Lorraine! I will never be in a perfect frame of mind. If you think you are, you are lying to yourself, right? We need to be obedient and as faithful as we can be and let God do the work inside. He is amazing!!
Spot on Benjamin. He most certainly is amazing, unworthy as we are, or feel, He never lets us go for one second, and is working through our weaknesses continually. Why He hasn't given up on me, I'll never understand, but He hasn't, and I know He never will. I love you Jesus : )
