I don't know if everyone has seen this yet, but this show is so cool. We do have Super-Powers. We have the Power of the Living God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit living in us, and the God-Given desire to help others. There is nothing 'ordinary' about this. But we must 'use' our 'Super-Powers' for our powers to develope and grow. Sometimes it can be 'seemingly' little' things. But if we 'start' with little things, we can develope our ability to do 'huge' things. Learn to 'respond'.....when you are needed. If you do not nurture the ability to 'respond'....nothing will happen. But if you begin to 'respond' when you see something that needs to be done....God will start showing you more and will give you more ability/power. There is nothing 'ordinary' about helping people. You can do it!
One of the really cool thing about Superhero stories is that, traditionally, at the critical point of the story the Superhero has to do without the power (because of Kryptonite planted bby a btrayer, etc.). This is perhaps an indication of such stories being derivative of the Jesus story (came to earth incognito, manifested His power with mixed reactions including rejection and hostility, suffered unto death without using the power to escape, and became victorious).
But unlike Superman, God's gifts tend to be of the type that grow, through faithful nurturing and use to good purposes. The Beatitudes show us that good suprises await those who are faithful to trust in God and not give up -- that His kingdom grows as a tree grows from a tiny seed. And while a tree simply stays there and grows through being watered and sunlit, people have choice in the matter: they can grow or wither, depending on their choices.
Someone once said that we get all excited following signs and wonders, when Jesus said signs and wonders were supposed to follow in our wake (as we live faithful to Him).
Thank you, Robert, for giving us such an encouraging word!
