What are your views on letting the Holy Spirit lead you in worship. The Holy Spirit once told me to stop worship and pray for one of the people in youth group, so I stopped playing and announced that we should pray for the young man. The youth group was only small, and I was the only one playing, but as we prayed for the young man the Holy Spirit fell on his sister and I. We started shaking and everyone started prophesying over the young man and his sister.

It was so amazing, it was an indescribable experience, and God's love was on us all. So what are your views on this, maybe not stopping worship but letting the Holy Spirit lead you and the congregation.

Thanks for this post, it's a good one... I had to think of what to say for a while! =)

You are right about all this being done to the glory of people instead of God, it happens all the time, that's why we as worship facilitators have to submit ourselves daily to HIS will. I always tell God, "Lord I want this to be for your glory not mine, help me not to get proud. I submit myself to your leading." before I even lead worship. I have had the shaking experience and being slain in the spirit only a few times to myself, and I do not try to do it. It comes out of not caring what people think of you and submitting to the Holy Spirit.

Yes we are human, but the Bible tells us that we do not walk according to the flesh but to the Holy Spirit.

I agree, if you don't pray in your own time, then you shouldn't lead worship. If you are a worship leader, it is your responsability to go to a deeper place in God's presence. Because you can only lead people so far as you have already gone.

Thanks for this great post!
Good Question.
Take the man out of the mix let us assume he is sincere and genuine.
I think a better question is can you have a mix?
Holy Spirit the flesh, and (or) the devil.

1.Could it be posible that at times it is the Holy spirit.
2.Could it also be that at times it is the flesh. ( Flesh not in a bad way. Social conditioning, Context - if everybady else is falling?-, wanting attention.)
3. Could it not be possible that there is a demonic issue at times. Somebody manifesting? Ahhh but that open up a whole can of worms now. Doesnt it? :-)
So the question is how do we recognize what is what and which is which.
Good Question.
1. I do think that we make mistakes, but God appreciates us giving it a go. We don't expect teachers to make good sermons 100% of the time, we don't expect evangelists to get people saved 100% of the time... But we seem to expect the worship leader, who is in a prophetic flow, to get it right all the time! This is wrong!
2. Actually in our church, only about a third of people fall down. Most people in our church don't want to fall down anyway, so they don't.
3. Please explain, sorry I didn't fully understand the question.
Over the last several months except for specific healing services (once a month) every Wednesday night service the focus of the service is to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit; whether it is in worship and praise, prophecy and encouragement, healing or prayer. Every week God shows up and show off! He is soooooo Cool
Isn't God just amazing, give him a little room to move and he'll do a few nice things... Surrender the whole service to Him, and who knows what will happen?

God always suprises me!
I say GO FOR IT!

I mean hello? Isn't the point of worship to get in to what God has in store for us during that service?
What's the point of saying "Lord- have your way in this service?" if when He does ask us to do something- we say "No, not right now. Or No it doesn't fit"

when you let the Holy Spirit lead- He'll never lead you astray!
I agree! Amen brother! Thanks for this awesome post!
That is awesome, what you experienced with the youth and I believe we should always allow Holy Spirit to intervine with our services. It's for God that we are doing the service anyways, if we don't let Him do what He wants its like somebody kicking you out of your own home. You know, with our praise and worship we set (most of the time) the atmosphere for salvation, healing, and everything that God wants to do and sensitivity is the key to it all. I congratulate you on being willing to step out of the program and just allowing Holy Spirit to do what He wants to do. To me that is what makes a Worship Leader, and that is what many are lacking. . .

God bless you and keep up the good work.
So true, thanks so much for this post!
I have had some profound moments when I was able to hear god and had some downright mediocre moments when I wouldn't listen to God and just wanted to stick to "the plan". Last sunday, I just knew that God wanted to do something, but couldn't figure out exactly what. Finally at the very end of worship, God gave me a very specific vision to pray over the church and two specific words to pray over specific people in the church (He didn't reveal who, but just very specific details). Later, after the service, God confirmed that the words were true by people coming up to the pastor's wife and letting her know that the words were from them. The funny part to me was that worship itself actually sounded a little bad. We record sundays, and though everyone there obviously felt the spirit and were moved by worship, when I later heard the recording, I just had to laugh. i was off key and flat on numerous occasions. The band missed some major transitions. Anyway, i just have to laugh that the Holy Spirit is so willing and wanting to move inspite of us.

Definitely agree that it's essential to practice and be polished and planned for every sunday, but open to God's leading and willing to depart from the plan completely....
Yeah that's awesome, thanks for your great contribution!
The Holy Spirit IS the Worship Leader--we are only His obedient vessels! For this reason, we rest in Him. Do not depend on our skills, song selection, whatever. The Holy Spirit makes it happen, not the worship leader! We are obedient servants and depend totally on the Spirit's leading...God bless you as you serve!
