The Holidays will be here before you know it and I'm always eager to hear what everybody is planning?

What are you and your team working on for Christmas?

What we are doing this year is a Christmas worship experience called 'Come! In Grace and Glory' by Travis Cottrell and David Moffitt, which is found at Benson-Brentwood Music. It combines Christmas music, new songs and worship songs we are familiar with, responsive readings and narration. This is something we haven't tried before but we are now at a place where we are branching out into harmony parts and developing a choir and we are excited because this offers the opportunity for us to stretch and grow in music ministry as well as doing a Christmas production.
There are some great songs in that musical, Jerry! We used some of them a few years back when we had a choir for Christmas. Our theme that year was 'He came to give us life' and the song 'You give us life' was amazing. The band rocked!!
It was hard work but worthwhile. We used a lead singer like they have on the CD and everyone loved it.
Hope it goes well for you. It will certainly help you stretch and grow in music ministry.
Interestingly enough, I just changed churches. I found out that this year they were planning a Christmas service - but it sounds like that idea got scrapped because our worship pastor is moving to a different church.

From what I understand, they actually don't do much for the Christmas season. I think there is a Christmas Eve service, but I don't know. The church generally believes that instead of trying to make people more busy during the holidays, that they need to help make people less busy.

So it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
That's what we have done, we had about 10 songs (mix of Christmas carols and praise and worship) with a short challenge/devotional/talk inserted somewhere... We made it special by having a few subtle instrument changes like adding in acoustic (upright/string/double) bass, brought in lamps from home and made it more intimate.
We are doing 5 services from the personal viewpoint of several of the major characters in the Christmas story.- Mary, Joseph, a shepherd, the inn keeper, and a wiseman. (The wiseman will be on Dec. 26th.) I found a great, free resource for monologues at joyfulheart.com. We are pairing each of the monologues (done in costume) with a song/solo that supports the monologue. These mini dramas will lead into the message of the day. We are really looking forward to the season and the fresh perspective the dramas will, hopefully, lend to a familiar story.
