Finding the "rhythm" of prayer, praise and worship. God, I need my focus back!

What do you do when you feel the Holy Spirit tugging at you to pray/praise/or worship him and either you have to much to say that you don't know where to begin; or maybe you can't find enough time at the end of the day. What do you do to find quiet time with Him, and focus only on Him? Is our spirit praying when we can't find words to say?

Personally, I don't always have the answer to this for myself, but I heard something good on the radio.

A little girl had a new puppy and wasn't always good about feeding him. The mom told her that she cannot eat breakfast until the puppy had eaten. Then she used that on herself. "Self", you cannot turn on that computer until you have spent time with the Lord.

Besides the time of spontaneous personal prayer and worship, we should plan it into our day as God has a meeting with us. Not that it should be legalistic, but it should be that important and vital! (as he says to himself in the mirror : D )
Wow, Kevin, that's good stuff. Facebook and WTR are becoming a bit of an...addiction?? At night, my husband works and my 3-year old can be a handful. So by the time I get a moment alone, I'm...zzzzzzzzzzzzz. LOL
I hear you, my wife and I have a 4 yr old girl who stays up late with me, an 11 day old little girl, I have a full-time job outside the church, we are youth pastors, and I am the worship leader for 2 congregations (same church) spanish and english!

TIME IS PRECIOUS.
Wait on the Lord....just continue. We already know the answer.....but sometimes we tend to feel 'ordinary'.
Praise Hime, Praise Him, Pray, Read His Living Word....and just keep coming back, keep knocking on the door, hunger and thirst etc, etc, etc.
James 5:11 (New King James Version)
Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
...also in Daniel 10, God tells him, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words."
It is a 'done deal'.....just be patient. He hears you, and if we just keep coming to Him, Keep coming to Him.....that is all we need 'try to remember'. If we were only permitted to 'remember' 'just one thing'.....if that 'one thing' is: ....to come before the Lord. We will find everything there.

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, (courtesy Lincoln Brewster)
wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord,
wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord.

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our strong deliverer.

You are the everlasting God,
The everlasting God.
You do not faint,
You won't grow weary.
You're the defender of the weak,
You comfort those in need,
You lift us up on wings like eagles.

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord,
wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord.
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord,
wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord.

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our strong deliverer.

You are the everlasting God,

Press in! It says in His word to pray without ceasing. A way to do that is pray in the spirit! This is how I look at it. If we call ourselves "Lovers of God" then we should persue relationship with him. Just like a human relationship, both parts give. they invest time in each other, if all we do is sit back and wait for the Lord to minister to us then thats not relationship. Press into his heart! The Lord wants to take you to a deeper level of intimacy in him.
Another thing, we are always sowing seeds, always. If you sow a seed, that seed will grow and produce fruit. If you so a good seed you produce good fruit, if you so a bad seed you produce bad fruit. So start sowing good seeds, as in: choosing to take the time to spend some time with him. If you sow a bad seed, like choosing to watch a movie instead of reading the word, it may result in you being in a bad mood the next day, or even leaving you not wanting to spend time with Him.The Lord is so jealouse of our affections. Glenda I struggle with the same stuff. None of this is me talking down to you :) this is all from personal experience of wanting to know God more, but not having the time to do it.
I hope you can recieve from this.

God Bless you :)

Thanks guys, Max and Robert you are right. To wait and press in. Most of the time I struggle more with accessing quality time without interruption than the desire, but the Holy Spirit just keeps telling me to keep at it, to keep coming to him, even at work or on the drive home, or while I'm cooking dinner. It's like he even loves my desires, even if I only spend a couple minutes with Him, knowing that the more I come, the longer I will stay. It's like I was saying in my spirit "God I want to talk to you, but I dont know what about" It's like I have this unquenchable longing to be with him, but I didnt know whether I wanted to pray for direction or for my ministry or for my marriage or for the nation and it was making me nuts! Until last night...well first, the other day I read something that eluded to Daniel when he prayed and his prayer was held up for 21 days. That scripture says he was heard THE FIRST TIME he made his petition. So the holy spirit reminded me of that, and said keep pressing. So I got my bible and said Lord just speak to me. I dont wanna just read random scriptures, I need us to have a conversation. So I started reading in I Peter 4 and just read through 5 because it was just that good. But then 2 Peter 3-10 is what grabbed my heart and my attention, and I said YES this is what I want. I want to know you, and I want a life that has moral excellence and self control and patience and faith and love. Instead of praying for specifics I just want the life that brings about the power and anointing of God wherever I am. So that when I do minister and sing, it's just overflow. I want to walk daily in power. I dont just want power on Sunday mornings. Also in I Peter 4:7, he commands us to be earnest and disciplined in our prayers. Also a nugget that I needed at this time. I thank God for his word and His Holy Spirit "who speaks to us deep in our hearts"
I think it's awesome that God pursues us so that we can pursue him so he can speak to us. He gives us the "sense" to chase after him, because he wants to tell us something about Him and about us. BLESS GOD!
Way Cool. I can only recommend to 'you' the same thing that I am telling 'myself'...."Keep knocking on His door."
I have a silly little thing that I do sometimes....I knock on the front cover of my bible so that it makes an audible "thump thump".....and then I pretend , in the Lord's voice and say, "Come in."
Yesterday as I was going home from work, I got the sense that it's ok to pray in stages. The Holy Spirir said that it's good to pray for others and things and the world and that we should do those things, but first we must work on the relationship. Even in our earthly relationships we know better that to ask for things from a person if we don't know them or if we haven't spoken in a while. It's like having a friend that you haven't talked to in months and then your first call to them is to ask to borrow 20 bucks!!! What nerve! So I feel that in the quiet moments and in my devotion time it's all about getting to know God more and more, and then throughout the day and other specified times is my time to pray for others, my marriage, our country and it's leaders, etc. God wakes me up with someone on my mind almost every night between 3a-5a, so I pray during that time too. If we were to pray for every single thing at one time, we'd be on a our knees forever! I'm glad that God is so gracious in his approach toward us, and that he knows our hearts and spirits. He helps us pray to him! What friend or spouse do you know that would feed you the words to say and then accept them as though it were the first time they ever heard it? God is awesome!
Thanks for this thread, Glenda, I am also struggling with these very same issues as of late. Some great advice here that I need to take and put into practice in my own life and time with God.

I have thought this same thing before......but I do not think this applies. This is our own limited way of thinking. God does not get His feeling hurt. He wants us back on track with Him 'as soon as possible'. 'He' is ready and waiting, always and forever. Just as soon as we are ready to change and come to Him....He is already there, and has been there the entire time.....Just jump in....'as if' you were never gone. Don't let pride get in the way. We have to 'come up to speed', and be able to forgive ourselves as quickly as God forgives us. This aint no 'Dial-up' connection baby. As soon as you hit the power button, you are already connected.
Multi-tasking to the max! One thing I do is divide up everything based on my life's logistics.

1) My sons love me to read the Bible to them, so that time can be used to keep myself in the flow of the kid-friendly parts of the Bible. And that's a lot, by the way!

2) They also enjoy listening in to my time of worship, so I time that so that it's not too late at night, don't want to disturb the neighbors.

3) I've got motion-sickness, so when I know I've got long bus trips that day I listen to Proverbs on my portable CD player.

4) When I have more train trips I squeeze in all my less kid-friendly parts of the Bible there.

5) when I'm walking around I am either praying in tongues or speaking the memorized verses.

Given my current schedule that's about all I can manage for now. I hope to work out something better soon. :)
Wow Junjie,
I also multi-tasked, but was at the same time questioning myself because I wondered if God was really hearing me. I pray alot "in my mind) but we've always been taught that our power is in our spoken words. So I would wonder if I was really connecting or if he really heard me if that was the ONLY way I was praying that day. (Does that make sense?) I also wanted to have that time to verbally worship and pray in tongues. At my church it is acceptable, but not in a public sense, so I wouldnt do it audibly there. Last night I had that chance. We just moved into our new home in Feb. and there is a room in the basement that is painted all black (the previous owner used to develop film there) even knowing that, the room was kinda scary to me. but my husband declared it our prayer room. He even wants to have someone paint gold cherumbim on the wall with other things that might create and throne room like atmosphere. Well last night I went down there and I jut poured my heart out. Even when tried to speak in English I couldnt. Afterwards I felt so at peace, and I knew that I had been in a meeting with God. He also let me know that he reveals himself in stages. I have to show myself faithful to continually meet with him there and chase after him. There he will give me songs and revelations and take me to another place in the Spirit. But it has to come first through prayer and worship.
