Another episode in the soap opera. Several band members will be out of town for Easter Sunday; which means high school subs; AND we won't have a chance to practice because of Holy Week services. I am about ready to just throw up my hands and walk away from this whole thing. But since that's not an option, what are some easy but beffective Easter songs?

I've got that problem Palm Sunday through Holy Week into Easter Sunday. Spring break here is that week and everyone is going out of town. Praise Team and congregation. I guess I can't fault them for taking spring break vacations. I'm looking at it as an opportunity to come up with something creative and different from what we have done the past few years. I'm with you in that I'm not sure what that will be yet. I'll post it here when I come up with it. :-) Good luck. God will give you what you need when you need it.
Well, you could always pull out "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High," it's the whole Easter story in one thirty second chorus, three chords and you're out :-)

Charles
Kathy,
It's an advantage knowing this far in advance. Is it possible to use your normal rehearsal time in the intervening weeks for your regulars to help the young'uns work through what will be expected for the Easter service? They may surprise you if given some time, responsibility and training. Aside from that, "Celebrate Jesus Celebrate" is a very simple well known song that fits in at an Easter service. A couple other less well-known but relatively easy to follow tunes that work on Easter are Jeremy Riddle's "Stand in Awe" and "Simply Broken" from the Full Attention cd
On the Third Day by Matt Maher on itunes by a different artist is a simple 3(4) chord Easter song. It has 4 verses and a simple chorus. Praise is Rising by Baloche seems to be a fairly easy song also. If you listen to Matt Maher first CD "Overflow" there are quite a few Easter Songs that we do.

Be thankful that you have subs. If we have absences we have very few replacements.
great specific suggestions! thanks!
Some of the very best worship services I've ever participated in have been a handful of people. A vocalist, and one or two instruments.

I'd cut the High School subs - grab one vocalist and 1 gifted pianist/organist or 1 guitarist and prepare for some really deep, intimate, meaningful worship.

I say this with the utmost love and kindness:
Easter Sunday is not about you, your team or your music. It is about Him. Stop stressing, perhaps this soap opera is by HIS design.

God Bless.
That is a really good point.
That is a very loving and straightforward reply...
I was feeling the same way when I read the first comment...but then started thinking...She already knows that...she's a worship leader...

So let me help her find a few songs...but

RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!

Blessings,

Chad
"She already knows that...she's a worship leader..."

I humbly disagree. Much of the body of Christ in the US has one foot in the world and one foot in the kingdom of God, serving both as seen fit. Many 'worship services' are mere entertainment venues. I've seen plenty of worship leaders that are simply performers. I submit that the title 'Worship Leader' does not mean that the leader posses the qualities of a worshipper.

Now, I'm not accusing Kathy of any such thing. I'm saying we have an obligation to check one another, hold one another accountable and lift one another up. We are quite fond of lifting one another up but not so fond of holding one another accountable.

I can only pray that when I'm having my soap opera moments someone checks my head and posses the questions that make me closely inspect myself in relation to Christ. That is true friendship and true love. I think we need to be doing more of that among leaders.
Praise God! Jeremiah, you're exactly right in your reply. :-)
Well since you are not going to walk away...
