God Bless. just wanted to share what we did last yr for our Christmas Eve service.. I hope it helps. We edit the Story to The Nativity movie and back ground music to go with the scene. We had the Character of Joseph and Jesus has a child live on stage with a spot light. The Scene starts as Joseph and Jesus has carpenters. Jesus ask the question how was I born? and that's when it all begins. Joseph and Jesus eating bread sits down and Joseph explains by parts why was he born, where and why. Part one he introduces Mary and how the angel appeared to her and has we show Mary giving birth to Jesus we have a live character walking down the aisle has Mary holding a baby and the song Mary did you know. When that is done the spot light goes back to these 2 characters and he continues to ask and the story continues from there and back to the scene. At the end Joseph stand with Jesus and tell him look out there. You came so we can have everlasting life. That through your blood we can be washed away from sin and it goes on from there. The Screen than shows the future and Jesus on the Cross and his resurrection.
Make it an acoustic Christmas and bust out the candles and persian rugs. I'd use "His Glory Appears" from the latest Hillsong album (Faith+Hope+Love) and make it into a medley with O, Holy Night. People like familiar but they can be very open to something that is new and simple and easy to catch onto.
You might want to use the book "The Tale of the Three Trees" also. I can't remember off the top of my head who wrote it, but it tells the story of Christ's life and death and can prove to be a fantastic sermon illustration with a "Reader" (we used a Grandma character) and some children (maybe 3 or 4 of them) as her on-stage audience by a fireplace if you have one for the stage or even just a Christmas tree. Very effective.
