There's a series called "iWorship" that consists of worship CD's and also DVD's (mostly with background shots of nature) that you might find useful.
THANX ALEX WILL CHECK INTO THAT!
Jenny, what is the name of your congregation, and how many usually attend on a normal Sunday? Are there midweek services at all? My worship band will be on tour next month, maybe we can stop by and worship with your congregation =]

I don't totally agree with Bruce about just singing acapella, but I agree with him that singers can be more effective than musicians. Very humbling for me to admit, because I am more a musician than a singer! :D
I agree, CD music isn't great. But singing without instruments can get old real quick. Certainly you can find a believing piano player somewhere. Oh wait, you're in Las Vegas.
Hi, maybe try a combination of both when everyone is really getting into it have your sound tech slowly bring down the volume on the cd/dvd until just the congregation is singing. Also I believe the I-Worship has a feature that allows you to sing with out the vocals but still have the music and power point. may God richly bless your new church and prosper you in every way.
Check out some other sources. I know that resoundworship.org has free access to their songs. You can download the mp3 of the song and many have a back track that you can download and play. We have used them with our kids choirs when we don't have the musicians to play along. Acappela is a great way to get the congregation to sing out. They are the instruments and the vocals.
Jenny,

One option is to ask another local church for some help. We have a church next door which has a very elderly congregation. They only have 1 organ player, and when they are out of town, they don't have many options. We regularly 'loan' out musicians to them on as "as-needed-basis". We also committed to them for a while in the past to 1 Sunday a month or something like.

When I used to play for a band that recorded a CD for charity, we got invited to a few churches to play Sunday mornings for them. It was great for the churches as their regular teams got a break, and the congregation got a little variety in the music.

So maybe if you can ask around in your area. 'Who knows...', another church might take it upon themselves to help you in the short term as part of their ministry. =) Always seems like there are some people around just itching to play...
What is your typical worship session like? Does the music flow smoothely or are you battling with the machine at times? Do you have a set and burn them to one cd? Is there a lot of fumbling between songs so there is a lot of talking, etc.? I'm just asking so I can understand what you want help with. Don't be afraid to sing accappella if you sense the Lord doing something and telling you to prolong the song that was played.

If you find you are picking CD's that have the vocal range of Sandy Patti (I still hear her pitch from Upon This Rock) you may want to look online for something called Tascam Vocal Trainer. It's used to help people train their voices but it has the capacity to be hooked up to an amplifier and bring the pitch of the song down without affecting the speed of the song. I think it can also cancel the voice of the singer on the CD so you can lead. Hope this helps.
Jenny... As someone else said, ask other churches!! About 7-8 years ago, my worship band at the time was asked to lead worship at a church in another town. We did, and the response was great!! I'd bet if you go to a local contemporary church and ask for help, musicians and singers would jump at the chance...
Jenny-

I am in the exact same place you are! I am the worship leader of a small church w/no musicians...and only have a "cd worship band". It has it's benefits and problems. I like the cd's MUCH better than accapella...because we LOVE to turn it up and rock out! We had to really work with the sound to get me and one other girl's voices to be heard along with the cd...but we are figuring it out.
The thing that has really helped me out is Garage Band with Apple computers. It's a great app that lets you edit songs...and so I can cut off the beginning and ends of songs...especially when it's a live version and you can have 5 minutes of claps and cheers. It's actually really easy to use.
We use Hillsongs, Vineyard, Passion, music from Bethel, etc. I like variety.
It took several months of listening to the songs and making sure they flowed right into the next one since there are no live musicians to make that transisition. But I think we've done pretty good overall.
ALSO- Hillsongs and Gateway and several others also have track version of their worship cd's...and we've occasionally used those.
Hope that helps!
I understand the desire to use CD or DVD backup for worship. But I don't like it. No sir, not one bit. To me, it feels like "worship karaoke". Why don't you learn to play guitar? It doesn't take much to get started. There are some great instructional DVDs out there. I'm pretty fond of a series by some guys in the UK. It's called "Musicademy". Go to www.musicademy.com. Not too keen on their vocal DVD, but their beginner guitar series is AWESOME. I used it to teach a guitar class recently at my church, and I was truly impressed with the results!

I agree with the others as well, though. Why not go acapella?
