Hi folks.

I know this is a very subjective question, but what make & model of guitar do you find best for leading worship. I have a Martin HD-28 which is nice but i find it a bit muddy at times and i also have a Taylor 114 which is a tad tinny.

Aaron...a warning about the Martin Backpacker Travel Guitar...I would rather play a stringed broomstick and cigar box. You can start tuning the high E string and by the time you've gotten to the low E string the high E is out of tune again....lol. Backpacker= Piece of Junk.

Quite frankly, I was very surprised. I ended up buying a Seagull 3/4 size guitar to travel with.

I agree with Stevo, the CA's are awesome if they're in the budget for a travel guitar.
Ditto on that. Those aren't so hot. If it's travel you need, there's also:

They aren't cheap, but I have their classical and it's a gem to travel with.
Michael...I own a McPherson that I play in church. I have a little inexpensive Seagull I use to arrange with when laying out music for the praise team. I also use it when I travel through the week in my job that pays the bills. I own an epiphone les paul but almost never play it. It used to belong to my son. I keep it just in case a rythym or lead player is out and I need to fill in on a song. No pedals or other toys.

I have found this one thing to be the case regarding what type of guitar you play...whatever you play, as long as you use it to glorify God, it is an awesome instrument.

As guitar playing worship leaders, we still love to talk shop. My guitar is one of the tools I use in serving my Savior and I love to talk about the Lord...and yes, I suppose we guitar guys can be pretty amusing at times. :)
You can say that again : ) What is it with you guys and gadgets? : )
You probably got more than you bargained for here, Barry. Every guitar player has a certain "tone" in his/her head that they try to find. Your best bet is to play a lot of guitars and find the one you like the best. It would be worth the trip to a large music store, with a guitar playing friend, to check out as many as you can. Find some that you like and then stand out front and have your friend play them so you can hear what the audience hears. Then plug them in and see if you can get it to sound the same through the amp. I recently played two Taylors, same exact model, in a store. I'm not a Taylor fan, but one sounded beautiful and one sounded dull and lifeless - so you never know. Right now my favorite is a Gibson Songwriter but I don't like the sound of the Deluxe's. I've played some Martin's that just saaaaaaang, and some that just died. I had a friend who's Takamine guitar was the best thing I've ever heard plugged in, but my Takamine needs a million processors to make it sound good. I've been on a few excursions with friends looking for acoustic guitars and we were always surprised by what we ended up with.

amen man.....it doesnt matter what company you go with. every guitar will sound different . you gotta play everything til you find the perfect one for you. though i will admit that taylor guitars (to me) have to most consistent sound with each guitar they make. but i stil think that with comparable models of different companies, martin is the best. thats just my 2 cents though. i also really like goodall and larrivee.
Larrivee is highly underrated. Definitely worth considering.
amen amen.....and some larrivee models come stock with the aura pickup already onboard. so you get a solid guitar and solid electronics. and larrivee's are reasonably priced too. it gets better and better with them.
Hey Barry...

Have you tried any of the Breedlove guitars? I have just come back from the US Brian Johnson from Bethel Church in redding Plays one. It sounds amazing, I am very fussy about tone as well, and really loved the guitar. (now obviously a bad mix/PA can ruin even the best guitars, but worth a try)
Cheers.
Brad
Agreed! you might like these and they can be had for less than a Taylor or Martin.
