Hi folks.

I know this is a very subjective question, but what make & model of guitar do you find best for leading worship. I have a Martin HD-28 which is nice but i find it a bit muddy at times and i also have a Taylor 114 which is a tad tinny.

Thanks Dave, but i have tried all of those things on my HD-28. I got a new bone nut and saddle and i use elixer PB to get the brightest tone possible, but still i find the trebles quite tinny and mellow (almost akin to a classical guitar nylon strings trebles) not strong enough to cut through, acoustically and plugged in. Iv tried selling it buyt would not get much for it, especially now in recession times. I paid 3100 euros new, now they are selling new for less than 2000 eu, so imagine what id get 2nd hand
it might also be the speaker system you have. thats a problem for some churches. and like someone else said, maybe you just need better electronics put in.
Bone nuts aren't as bright as the tusq nuts, but i doubt it will make enough difference to you at this point.

You could try some more types of strings.
im gonna advertise my guitar again.....the martin dc aura

it has the best pickup on the market, in an onboard system. and its a very well balanced sound. good lows, crisp mids and the highs arent tinny. its east indian rosewood with a solid sitka spruce top, single piece mahogany neck and ebony fret board. i love it, absolutely love it. i play d'addario exp phosphor bronze mediums and they sound great on it. its also quite a beautiful guitar to look at. it has the inlay, the ebony, the full gloss.....its just plain purdy.

its the best guitar ive ever heard live or played live (apart from a mic). and its wonderful unplugged as well.

you can get a higher end guitar, but 99 time out of 100 they wont sound very good with a pickup. so this, to me, is by far the best option.

i love my martin dc aura!!
Ive got a Taylor 314CE with the expression system and I think it sounds great. I used to use a martin dcx1e, but I love my Taylor now. I am thinking about putting the lr baggs pickup in it as well and running both systems in stereo to get some cool mixing capabilites..
I think my Taylor 310 ltd. sounds great for worship!
yea, like stevo said....its a loaded question. everyone has their own taste in what kind of sound they like.
Honestly I think you can make any guitar work with the right equipment. And if you are a solid player anything you put your hands on will sound nice. Your Martin should sound awesome I would think, but if you want something to cut through, a Maple Taylor, such as the 614, does a nice job of cutting through. I lead with a Taylor 424CE thats made with all Koa, and it just sounds beautiful (but of course I'm biased :)
Also, you can adjust your mixer settings to try and "unmuddy" the Martin's sound. But that can get slippery, don't get too drastic with it, but you'd be surprised what a minor tweak with some hi mids and mids will do to a sound.
thats awesome that youve found something that works for you. its fun when you really enjoy what you play.
my Martin should sound awesome, as i paid 3100 for it and it sounded good in the shop, but id doesnt, unfortunately :-(((((
You guitar guys crack me up! What I want to know is WHO HAS THE MOST??????? I know on the 'sax on the web' site there are guys (and some gals) with bad cases of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) who have numerous horns and up to 50 pouthpieces!!!! That's a lot of inventory for many stores and these are individuals who own them.
i have 2 acoustic guitars and some pedals. i'd like to get an amp and a couple more pedals, but thats it. maybe a low grade martin for international traveling, like a
